UNIVERSITY ADDS AI COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT FOR STUDENTS 🎓

What’s up? Purdue University will now require all undergraduates to demonstrate basic competency in AI, starting with students who enter in 2026.

Why? Rather than adding new courses or credit hours, the “AI working competency” requirement will be built into existing degree programs. Each academic college will define what AI competency looks like for its discipline, with students demonstrating their skills through program-specific projects. The requirement is focused on ensuring students develop the following skills:

  • Understand and use the latest AI tools effectively in their chosen field(s).

  • Recognize and communicate clearly about AI use, decisions and limitations.

  • Adapt to and work with future AI developments effectively and continually.

Why should you care? As more companies adopt AI to streamline and optimize their operations, employees will increasingly need to know how to work with these tools. Universities that teach students how to understand, evaluate, and use AI wisely will better prepare graduates for this changing workplace. Schools that ignore this shift risk leaving their students behind, unprepared for the skills employers will soon expect as standard.

PRIME VIDEO PULLS “VIDEO RECAPS” AFTER AI BLUNDERS 🎥

What’s up? Amazon Prime Video has pulled its AI-generated recap feature after it blundered a recap of the popular show, Fallout.

Want the details? Prime Video’s “Video Recaps” feature, in testing, automatically summarizes seasons of shows using clips and an AI voiceover. It’s meant to help people catch up on shows quickly without missing key information. However, in Fallout’s season one recap, the AI made notable story errors, including misdating The Ghoul’s flashback and oversimplifying a key choice faced by Lucy MacLean. After fans flagged these mistakes online, Amazon quietly removed Video Recaps, at least for now.

THE WASHINGTON POST RELEASES CONTROVERSIAL AI PODCAST 🎙️

Image: The Washington Post

What’s up? The Washington Post has launched “Your Personal Podcast,” an AI-powered news podcast inside the company’s app that automatically customizes episodes for each listener. However, early results have raised criticism.

How does it work? The podcast is generated using AI that draws on a user’s reading history from the Post’s website and app. Based on what articles you read, the system selects stories, writes short audio scripts, and narrates them using computer-generated voices. Listeners can further personalize the experience by adjusting topic preferences or choosing between different AI “hosts.” However, early testers have said the podcasts often misrepresent news and even misquote people. According to the Post, the tool is still in an early beta phase and is not meant to function like a traditional, journalist-led podcast. They add that there is an AI system designed to check scripts for accuracy, and they advise users to verify information against the original articles.
