A NEW WAY TO TEST AI-POWERED SCIENCE 🧪
What’s up? Researchers from OpenAI have introduced FrontierScience, a new benchmark designed to test whether AI can reason like a PhD-level scientist across physics, chemistry, and biology.
Want the details? FrontierScience goes beyond trivia or multiple-choice tests by focusing on expert-level reasoning. It includes hundreds of original questions written and verified by domain experts. One track, called Olympiad, uses very difficult short-answer problems similar to international science competitions, making answers easy to check for correctness. The second track, Research, asks open-ended, multi-step questions closer to real scientific work and grades them with detailed rubrics that assess reasoning along the way. Early results show strong performance on structured problems and weaker results on open-ended research tasks for existing AI systems.
