INTRODUCING THE FIRST-EVER ROBOT OLYMPICS 🤖

What’s going on? More than 500 humanoid robots from 16 countries are currently competing in the first-ever World Humanoid Robot Games, held over three days in Beijing.

Want the details? The event features 26 competitions ranging from soccer and boxing to medicine sorting and cleaning tasks. Teams are using the games as a testing ground for AI-powered robots, trying out new designs and programming in a high-pressure, real-world setting. While many robots are stumbling through—toppling over during sprints or missing kung fu moves—the contests provide valuable data for improving their performance.

Why is this significant? These games reveal both how far robotics has come and how much potential remains. Beyond entertainment, advances tested here could lead to robots that assist in healthcare, disaster response, and other industries worldwide.

GOOGLE RELEASES SMALL, LOW-COST GEMMA MODEL 💎

What’s new? Google has launched Gemma 3 270M, a compact AI model with just 270 million parameters, designed for developers to build fast, private, and low-cost applications that run directly on devices like smartphones or in web browsers.

How does it work? Gemma 3 270M is part of Google’s “right tool for the job” approach, focusing on specialized, fine-tuned tasks rather than general-purpose AI. Its architecture dedicates most parameters to an expanded vocabulary, allowing it to excel in niche domains like law or medicine with less training data. The model is highly power-efficient, capable of running locally on devices without draining battery or sending data to the cloud. Pre-trained and instruction-tuned versions are also available, making it easy for developers to quickly adapt the model for specific roles such as sentiment analysis, content moderation, or structured data conversion. By making advanced AI lightweight and deployable anywhere, Google is opening the door to broader, more affordable adoption across industries.

FIRST AI IN HISTORY PASSES THE U.S. MEDICAL LICENSING EXAM 🩺

What’s new? OpenEvidence has become the first AI in history to score a perfect 100% on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).

How does it work? OpenEvidence, already used by over 40% of U.S. physicians for evidence-based clinical support, has built an AI system that not only answers USMLE questions correctly but also explains the reasoning behind each answer. Every explanation is backed by citations from top medical journals like The New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA. The AI provides both knowledge-recall questions and case-based learning vignettes, customizable by training level, ensuring that learners receive accurate, verifiable, and level-appropriate feedback.

Why does this matter? Medical education is expensive, and access to high-quality resources is selective. By releasing these AI-powered tools, OpenEvidence aims to democratize medical learning, helping students and clinicians worldwide improve their knowledge.
