THE WORLD’S AI SAFETY SUMMIT AND WWII 🤨

The U.K. gave us some more details about their AI summit! ⛰️

What’s happening? The U.K. government is organizing the world's inaugural AI safety summit at Bletchley Park, known for its significance in breaking the Enigma Code which led to the end of WWII.

What is the event about? The event, slated for November 1 and 2 of this year, will convene global governments, leading AI companies, and research experts to “consider the risks of AI, especially at the frontier of development.” The summit aims to address these risks and seek coordinated international solutions and seek solutions for “safe development and use of frontier AI technology.”

ALIBABA’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED AI MODELS 🦾

All we had to say was, “Alibaba!” … and new AI models appeared. 🪄

What’s new? Amidst great anticipation, Alibaba has introduced a pair of AI models: Qwen-VL and Qwen-VL-Chat, equipped with advanced visual localization functionalities.

What can these models do? These new models will allow researchers, academics, and companies to develop their own AI apps without needing to train their own AI systems. The models exhibit an enhanced ability to interpret intricate visual cues such as recognizing and comparing image inputs, perceiving text embedded in images, and effectively addressing location-based questions.

What does this mean? This launch by the world’s largest e-commerce company displays the significance of AI’s usage in large scale markets and showcases the ongoing rivalry among technology enterprises to unveil increasingly sophisticated AI solutions.

IS THE X PLATFORM FLOODED WITH BOTS? 🤖

We might just be interacting with AI bots every day, without even knowing it. 👀

What happened? A recent Indiana University study revealed one of the latest AI threats on X, previously known as Twitter. The study identified a botnet named "Fox8," consisting of around 1,140 AI-powered accounts.

What is the danger? By emulating human behavior through stolen images from genuine profiles and inter-bot interactions, these bots have become quite convincing to deceive people for multiple purposes. Besides the threat to personal privacy, these accounts utilize LLMs and other AI-driven tools to generate fake content and construct false profiles by stealing images. Primarily, they aim to deceive users into investing in counterfeit cryptocurrencies and suspicions arise that they may have even pilfered from genuine crypto wallets. The botnet also disseminates misinformation on topics like elections and public health, infiltrating the platform with AI-generated posts to amplify the visibility of their deceitful content.

What can be done? Although X reportedly took down the bot accounts after the study's release, concerns remain about the platform's responsiveness and the potential rise of more sophisticated, malicious bots. The researchers urge stronger regulations and measures against this issue on X and other social platforms, as current methods continually struggle to detect AI-generated content.
