WHITE HOUSE HOSTS TOP TECH LEADERS 🇺🇸
What happened? Over the weekend, President Trump and the First Lady hosted top technology leaders at the White House to discuss advancing AI in the U.S.
What was discussed? The meeting centered on the administration’s AI Action Plan, which promotes investment in infrastructure, research, and workforce training. Industry leaders, including executives from OpenAI, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, and AMD, attended the meeting and praised this pro-innovation approach. They emphasized that federal support is helping their companies accelerate research, invest in U.S. manufacturing, and expand data centers that power AI technologies. Leaders noted that optimism and collaboration between government and industry are key to keeping the U.S. at the forefront of the global AI race.
CHINA MANDATES AI IMPLEMENTATION 🇨🇳
What’s new? China has unveiled a sweeping “AI Plus” plan alongside new rules for AI ethics and mandatory labeling of AI-generated content.
Want the details? The “AI Plus” strategy aims to embed AI across industries, consumer services, public governance, and scientific research. It sets milestones for AI adoption to exceed 70% by 2027 and 90% by 2030, with the goal of creating an “intelligent society” by 2035. At the same time, regulators issued draft AI ethics rules requiring fairness, accountability, and risk reviews for high-impact AI projects, while also introducing mandatory labels on AI-generated content like chatbots, voices, and synthetic images. Noncompliance can lead to fines, business suspensions, or even criminal liability.
Why is this significant? China is done goofing around—the country is full-steam-ahead on AI. This new plan aims at accelerating technological innovation, reshaping industries, and setting global benchmarks for AI governance.
AI IS RECONSTRUCTING A CLASSIC MOVIE 🎬
What’s new? AI startup Showrunner is working on reconstructing the missing 43 minutes of Orson Welles’ classic 1942 film The Magnificent Ambersons.
How will this work? Showrunner has been developing an AI model capable of generating long-form narratives and eventually entire feature films. For this project, the company will blend AI and traditional film techniques. Archival photos, scripts, and 3D reconstructions of sets will guide the recreation, while face- and pose-transfer tools will digitally restore the likenesses of the original actors. Some sequences will even be filmed with live performers, then merged with AI-driven enhancements. Filmmaker Brian Rose, who has spent years re-creating tens of thousands of missing frames, is leading the technical reconstruction efforts.
Why is this significant? This project shows how AI is moving beyond background tools like dubbing or visual effects and into the heart of storytelling and production itself. While it raises questions about copyright and creative ownership, it could also revive lost works of art and reshape how audiences engage with film history.
