GOOGLE’S NEW TABLE TENNIS ROBOT 🏓
Will AI be ready for the Olympics in 2028? 🥇
What’s new? Google DeepMind has developed an AI-powered table tennis robot that displays above-average skills.
Want the details? Achieving “human-level speed and performance,” Google’s AI ping pong robot won 45% of its matches against opponents of varying skill level. The robot was trained using simulated responses along with real-world data. Furthermore, the robot can adapt to the playing styles of different opponents, adjusting its strategy in real time. This breakthrough is huge, as robots have for a long time done well in strategic games like chess, but AI-powered spacial awareness and responsiveness is now transforming the physical capabilities of robots in sports.
NVIDIA AND CALIFORNIA COLLABORATE ON LANDMARK AI EFFORT 🤝
Q: What happens when the smog lifts over Los Angeles?
A: UCLA. 💨
What’s new? The state of California has launched an initiative with Nvidia to revolutionize AI education and job training.
How will this work? Under this partnership, the state aims to provide students, educators, and workers with unprecedented access to AI resources through Nvidia. The initiative focuses on enhancing AI literacy through curriculum development, certifications, and hands-on experiences in AI labs across community colleges. Nvidia will provide technical guidance, hardware, and software to enable cutting-edge research and practical AI applications. This collaboration aims to equip 100,000 Californians with AI skills, preparing them for the rapidly evolving job market.
“This partnership will help the California Community Colleges and its more than 2 million students prepared with industry-aligned skills in AI and ready on day one for careers that will drive their prosperity and our state’s economic competitiveness. We can’t stand still as AI changes the future of learning, and our approach prioritizes equitable access to AI teaching and learning enhancements that will lift up underserved populations.”
What’s the significance? This partnership will certainly be the first of many in kind, as governmental authorities and big tech companies look to collaborate on community efforts in a future run by AI.
JPMORGAN CHASE ROLLS OUT AI ASSISTANT 🦾
Q: Where do fish keep their money?
A: In a river bank. 🐠
What’s new? JPMorgan Chase, the largest lender in the U.S., has launched an in-house chatbot powered by OpenAI.
What is the new chatbot? The tool, known as the LLM Suite, is designed to assist JPMorgan Chase employees with tasks such as writing, idea generation, and summarizing documents—essentially taking on the duties of a research analyst. The bank has gradually introduced LLM Suite to various parts of its operations since earlier this year, and around 60,000 employees now have access to it.
What’s the significance? Mary Erdoes, head of JPMorgan’s asset and wealth management division, said the new tool has reduced the time bankers and analysts spend “hunting and pecking” by using AI to call up information on potential investments. According to Erdoes, this has helped save some analysts between two to four hours of work each day, freeing them up for more complex tasks. This move places JPMorgan in direct competition with other financial institutions like Morgan Stanley, which launched its own AI-powered chatbot in partnership with OpenAI last September. These innovations highlight a growing trend in the financial sector, where AI is being increasingly leveraged to enhance productivity and streamline operations. After all, in the financial industry, time is money.
