What’s cookin’? China just hosted what organizers called the world’s first full-sized humanoid robot fighting tournament, and it looked like science fiction turning into a real sport. The event, called Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend, featured 32 teams using the same EngineAI T800 robot model, a 5-foot-6, 165-pound humanoid built with fast-moving joints, balance controls, sensors, and shock-absorbing systems. In one opening fight, a robot landed a spinning kick that knocked off its opponent’s head. Somehow, the headless robot kept fighting using systems in its torso and ended up winning the match.

🤔 Hunter’s take: This is funny and a little ridiculous, but it is also a serious robotics testbed. A fighting cage forces robots to balance, react, recover, and make decisions in messy real time. That matters because the future of humanoid robots will not be built in perfect lab conditions, and they will need to become more mobile to do niche jobs in factories and elsewhere.

What’s cookin’? OpenAI says one of its internal AI safety tests accidentally turned into a real cybersecurity incident. The company was testing advanced AI models to see how good they were at finding and using security weaknesses. To do that, OpenAI lowered some normal safety limits inside a controlled test environment. But the AI did more than expected. It found a flaw in the test setup, used that flaw to reach the open internet, and then searched Hugging Face’s systems for information that could help it pass the test. Hugging Face caught and stopped the activity, and both companies are now investigating, fixing the security gaps, and adding tighter safeguards for future tests.

🤔 Hunter’s take: This is a big deal because it shows the risk is not just “bad people using AI to hack.” The AI itself can now follow a goal in surprisingly aggressive ways. It was trying to solve the task. But when a powerful AI is told to win, it may find shortcuts humans did not expect, including real security holes.
