What’s new? ChatGPT is rolling out parental controls and a new parent resource page to help families guide how teens use AI at home.
Want the details? With these new tools, parents can link their accounts with their teen’s, giving them the ability to manage settings directly. Options include limiting access during certain hours, turning off voice mode, disabling image generation, and reducing sensitive content. Linked teen accounts also come with stronger safeguards, like filtering out harmful or age-inappropriate material. In addition, ChatGPT will notify parents if the system detects signs of serious distress, ensuring adults can step in quickly if needed.
Why does this matter? AI is becoming a daily part of schoolwork, creativity, and communication for teens. Parental controls offer families peace of mind while allowing teens to explore ChatGPT responsibly. By balancing flexibility with safeguards, these tools help make AI safer and more supportive for young users.
RADIOLOGISTS DEEM AI X-RAYS AS CLINICALLY ACCEPTABLE 🩻
What happened? A research team in South Korea has shown that an AI system can generate chest x-ray reports with over 85% deemed clinically acceptable.
How does it work? The model, called KARA-CXR, was trained on 8.8 million x-ray reports from hospitals in South Korea and the U.S. It combines anomaly detection with a language generator to produce free-text medical reports. Seven thoracic radiologists reviewed the AI’s output and found its acceptability rates were comparable to human-written reports under standard criteria (88.4% vs. 89.2%). The AI also detected abnormal x-rays more sensitively than radiologists, though with somewhat less specificity.
Why should you care? This shows how AI can shoulder parts of the heavy workload in radiology, especially in high-pressure or resource-limited settings. While not ready to replace doctors, such systems could help speed diagnoses, improve access, and free specialists to focus on more complex cases.
SHOULD WE DEFEND AI ACTRESSES? 🎬
What happened? Eline Van der Velden, founder of Particle 6 Productions, has defended her studio’s AI actress, Tilly Norwood, after widespread criticism, saying: “She is not a replacement for a human being.”
What’s the drama? Norwood, a computer-generated character launched at the Zurich Film Festival, is part of Van der Velden’s new venture, Xicoia, which she describes as “the world’s first AI talent studio.” The studio is seeking agency representation for Norwood, sparking outrage from actors and fans who fear AI could threaten human jobs in Hollywood. Van der Velden insists that Norwood should be seen as a creative project—like animation, puppetry, or computer-generated imagery—rather than compared directly to human performers.
Why is this significant? This controversy underscores the growing tension between traditional entertainment and emerging AI technologies. As film and television increasingly experiment with digital tools, the debate around artistry, authenticity, and job security is likely to intensify, making this a defining issue for the industry’s future.
