OPENAI IS “OUT OF GPUS” 😳

Why are there so many “fans” of wind power nowadays? 💨

What’s going on? OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has revealed that the company is struggling to develop advanced AI models because they’ve run out of GPUs. This is reflected by the incredibly expensive cost to use GPT-4.5.

Want the details? In a post on X (above), Altman explained that the new GPT-4.5 model is both “giant” and “expensive,” requiring tens of thousands of additional GPUs before more users can access it. GPT-4.5 is now available for ChatGPT Pro subscribers, with ChatGPT Plus users gaining access throughout this week. The model’s high cost reflects its scale—OpenAI is charging $75 per million input tokens and $150 per million output tokens, significantly more than its previous models. Altman acknowledged that it’s very difficult to predict demand spikes, leading to GPU shortages. To address this in the future, the company plans to develop its own AI chips and expand its data centers, ensuring it can scale more smoothly as AI adoption grows.

CAN MICROSOFT AI PREVENT CLINICIAN BURNOUT? 🩺

Image: Microsoft

Clinician burnout in the U.S. dropped from 53% in 2023 to 48% in 2024, in part due to technology advancements. 👨‍⚕️

What’s up? Microsoft has announced Dragon Copilot, an advanced AI-powered assistant designed to improve clinical efficiency and reduce administrative burden for healthcare providers.

How will this help? With increasing administrative demands, healthcare professionals need smarter and more helpful solutions. Dragon Copilot automates note-taking, clinical searches, and medical documentation, allowing doctors to focus more on patient care rather than paperwork. By improving efficiency and accuracy, this tool helps clinicians save time, reduce fatigue, and enhance overall healthcare delivery.

PERPLEXITY TO POWER NEW SMARTPHONE 📱

I love my phone so much. I can’t picture myself without it. 🤳

What’s new? Perplexity is partnering with Deutsche Telekom (DT) to develop a new AI-powered smartphone.

Want the specifics? The smartphone will integrate AI deeply into its user experience. DT has yet to reveal specific hardware details, but the phone will provide AI-driven assistance directly from the lock screen. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas explained that the AI will handle tasks like booking flights, sending emails, and placing calls—functions typically requiring multiple apps. While integrating technology from Perplexity’s AI search platform, the device will also feature DT’s own AI assistant, Magenta AI and Google’s Gemini Multimodal Live API. The integration of the Gemini model will allow users to better interact with their surroundings. “For example, when on the go, users can translate conversations in real time, or translate written text from signs, menus, and other documents, just by looking at them through a device’s camera.” Additionally, the integration of Magenta AI will allow for intuitive image and video editing without the need for special apps. The phone is expected to launch in Europe in 2026 for under $1,000.

“Perplexity is transitioning from just being an answer machine to an action machine. It is going to start doing things for you, not just answering questions. It’s going to be able to book flights for you, book reservations for you, send emails for you, send messages, place phone calls for you, and all those sorts of things, like set smart reminders. These are the kinds of things that, earlier, you would have to do in your own way, learning how to use these different apps. All these things are going to start becoming easier so that you can focus your time and energy on problem-solving … This is really the next phase where AI [is] going to transition from being just reactive and having you input prompts into something that’s just natively there on your phone, always listening to you and being able to proactively assist you.”

-Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity CEO
