Money isn’t everything, but it definitely keeps you in touch with your children. 😆
What’s going on? OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that the company is losing money on its $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan due to higher-than-expected usage.
Want the details? In a series of posts on X (above), Altman admitted that he personally set the price, hoping for profitability, but underestimated user demand. Launched last year, ChatGPT Pro offers advanced features, including access to OpenAI’s upgraded AI model, o1 Pro, and tools like its Sora video generator. Despite raising around $20 billion, OpenAI remains unprofitable and reportedly lost $5 billion against $3.7 billion in revenue last year. The company faces mounting costs for staffing and AI development, once burning $700,000 daily on ChatGPT alone.
Why should you care? ChatGPT has boasted both free versions and paid tiers that allow for unlimited usage, but it’s likely that OpenAI will restructure this pricing model in the future. This means either getting rid of a free ChatGPT tier, hiking prices for premium tiers, or utilizing usage-based fees. As the cost to run AI is amplified, these price increases may be reflected by AI models beyond ChatGPT.
CHATGPT HELPED PLAN LAS VEGAS CYBERTRUCK EXPLOSION 😞
The dark side of AI is not fun to talk about, but it cannot be ignored. 🫤
What happened? On New Year’s Day, a Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas raised alarms about the role AI may play in future crimes. Investigators revealed that the suspect used ChatGPT to research explosive materials and bypass legal restrictions.
Want more details? According to NBC, the suspect queried ChatGPT for information about how he could put together an explosive, how fast a round would need to be fired for the explosives found in the truck to go off—not just catch fire—and what laws he would need to get around to gather the materials. An OpenAI spokesperson responded to the incident, “We are saddened by this incident and committed to seeing AI tools used responsibly. Our models are designed to refuse harmful instructions and minimize harmful content. In this case, ChatGPT responded with information already publicly available on the internet and provided warnings against harmful or illegal activities.” Although ChatGPT may have provided the suspect with information available on the internet, this incident reveals how these AI systems might make crimes easier to plan unless they get better at detecting harmful prompts.
DELTA’S AI CONCIERGE WILL MAKE AIR TRAVEL SMOOTHER ✈️
I threw my phone from the roof, and it broke. I guess airplane mode wasn’t working. 🙃
What’s new? Delta has unveiled a new AI assistant, Delta Concierge, to make air travel much smoother. The tool will be built into the Delta app in 2025.
What does it do? The Delta Concierge will be able to be engaged with through natural conversation, through text and voice. It will have the following features:
Flight Rebooking: Quickly rebooks delayed or canceled flights.
Gate Navigation: Suggests the fastest route to your gate.
Real-Time Updates: Provides live updates on boarding times and gate changes.
Airport Assistance: Helps locate amenities like lounges, restaurants, and restrooms.
Travel Reminders: Sends personalized notifications to keep your trip on track.
“Our vision for Delta Concierge is that it will serve as an AI-powered personal assistant that combines the context of who our customers are and how they like to travel, with the deep knowledge and insights we’ve built as the world’s most reliable airline.”
