CLAUDE 3.5 SONNET OUTPERFORMS GPT-4o 🤯

Image: Anthropic

The new Claude model is scoring higher than any other model, but some still find it disappointing. 😕

What’s new? Anthropic has launched its newest model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which it claims can surpass OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro across various tasks.

What’s so great about it? Claude 3.5 Sonnet is outperforming Anthropic’s previous high-end model, 3 Opus, in multiple categories and is reportedly twice as fast. Claude 3.5 Sonnet has also outscored GPT-4o, Gemini 1.5 Pro, and Meta’s Llama 3 (400b) in multiple benchmarks, such as coding, mathematics, multistep workflows, data interpretation, and humor understanding.

What else? With the release of Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Anthropic has also introduced Artifacts, a feature allowing users to interact with the AI’s outputs directly within the Claude app, enhancing functionality beyond simple text generation. This move hints at a broader vision, positioning Claude as a comprehensive tool for businesses. This might begin rivaling platforms like Copilot, Notion, and Slack.

Why are people disappointed? The most updated models, such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o, Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro, Meta’s Llama 3, and now Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet have received a lot of hype. However, the improvements in these models has been incremental, at best. Since the jump from GPT-3 to GPT-4, LLMs have not seen any significant leaps. Many disappointed experts think this is because of the amount of computing power needed to train such advanced models, but others think expecting such large leaps is simply unrealistic.

“The world is still waiting for that next big leap.”

DELL AND SUPERMICRO TO POWER MUSK’S AI 🦾

Q: What do you call a computer who sings?

A: A Dell. 🎤

What’s up? Elon Musk announced that Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer (Supermicro) will provide hardware for his AI startup, xAI.

What is being built? Dell and Supermicro will collaborate to build a massive supercomputer for xAI. Dell is also working with Nvidia to create a facility to power xAI’s chatbot, Grok.

What’s the significance? Musk has been investing heavily in chips and power for his AI startup, xAI. This reflects his pursuit of revenge against his greatest opposition, OpenAI, which he has continually criticized since leaving the board in 2018.

OPENAI CO-FOUNDER CHASES SUPERINTELLIGENCE WITH NEW COMPANY 🧠

Superintelligence: a software-based AI system with intellect beyond human intelligence. 🤖

What’s up? OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, who left the company last month, has announced his new venture, Safe Superintelligence (SSI).

Why? Sutskever served as OpenAI’s former chief scientist and co-led the now-dissolved Superalignment team, which was dedicated to safely controlling AI systems. His new company, SSI, will be focused solely on developing superintelligence in a safe way, free from commercial pressures and management distractions. Sutskever says SSI’s first product will be safe superintelligence, and the company “will not do anything else” until then.

“We will pursue safe superintelligence in a straight shot, with one focus, one goal, and one product.”

-Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI co-founder and founder of SSI inc.

What’s the significance? Many companies and tech leaders have spoken about the possibility of superintelligence. Elon Musk, for instance, said, “My guess is that we’ll have AI that is smarter than any one human probably around the end of next year.” Sutskever, who is dedicated to “safe” AI development (whatever that means), aims to get there before any other, corrupt tech giants do.
