Q: Why does the Earth need a tutor?

A: Because it has seven “C”s. 🌊

What’s new? An AI-powered tutoring tool called Khanmigo, created by education nonprofit Khan Academy, is being tested by over 8,000 teachers and students in classrooms around the country.

What is Khanmigo? Khanmigo offers personalized guidance to students in subjects like math, science, and the humanities. It also includes interactive features like debates and writing assistance. The AI even lets students chat with historical figures and literary characters. Not to mention, responses are rated in real-time, allowing users to provide feedback and correct mistakes.

What does this mean for AI in education? Despite concerns about AI potentially enabling cheating or offering incorrect information, Khan Academy believes Khanmigo can be a powerful learning tool. While some educators are hesitant about using AI tools in classrooms, others believe it's essential to equip students with skills to navigate these technologies effectively, because it is inevitable they will be used one way or another. Why not make that usage as positive and productive as possible?

META’S AI TRANSLATION BREAKTHROUGH 🗣️

Meta: Seamless M4T translation engine

“Amo las papas fritas!” 🍟

What’s new? Meta released an AI-powered translation engine called “SeamlessM4T” which can translate languages across text and speech much more effectively than previous models due to its utilization of AI algorithms. Meta proudly announced, “SeamlessM4T is the first all-in-one multilingual multimodal AI translation and transcription model.”

What does it do? According to Meta, SeamlessM4T supports:

  • Speech recognition for nearly 100 languages.

  • Speech-to-text translation for nearly 100 input and output languages.

  • Speech-to-speech translation, supporting nearly 100 input languages and 36 output languages.

  • Text-to-text translation for nearly 100 languages.

  • Text-to-speech translation, supporting nearly 100 input languages and 35 output languages.

What makes it different? Paco Guzmán, a research scientist manager at Meta, said what differentiates SeamlessM4T as a translation model is that it doesn't rely on intermediate models to produce results, which allows it to have more flexibility and responsiveness in translation. He said, “It even supports changing languages on the fly … This allows [it] to better support populations who naturally mix languages in their day-to-day speech.”

NVIDIA IS “LEVELING UP” GAMING 🎮

It’s time to level up with AI in gaming! 🕹️

What’s up? NVIDIA has showcased exciting advancements in AI technology for gaming at Gamescom, the world's largest gaming conference. They introduced DLSS 3.5, an upgraded version of their AI neural rendering technology.

What does this new tech do? DLSS 3.5 improves image quality in games with enhanced ray-traced effects like reflections and shadows by utilizing a feature called Ray Reconstruction. Additionally, NVIDIA's AI-driven non-playable characters (NPCs) are becoming more emotionally expressive with the implementation of their Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) and NeMo SteerLM, allowing developers to create more lifelike and engaging interactions.

Where will this tech appear? DLSS 3.5 will be debuted in upcoming games like Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Portal with RTX.
