OPENAI INTRODUCES GPT-4O MINI 🙂
Like many candy bars, OpenAI’s latest model is now available in a “fun size.” 🍫
What’s new? OpenAI has revealed GPT-4o mini, a smaller and more cost-efficient version of its flagship GPT-4o model.
What is GPT-4o mini? GPT-4o mini replaces GPT-3.5 Turbo as the smallest model OpenAI offers. According to OpenAI, “GPT-4o mini enables a broad range of tasks with its low cost and latency, such as applications that chain or parallelize multiple model calls (e.g., calling multiple APIs), pass a large volume of context to the model (e.g., full code base or conversation history), or interact with customers through fast, real-time text responses (e.g., customer support chatbots).”
What’s the significance? As small AI models improve, they are becoming more popular with developers due to their speed and cost efficiencies compared to larger models, such as GPT-4 Omni or Claude 3.5 Sonnet. These smaller, more cost-efficient models are a useful option for high volume, simple tasks that developers might repeatedly call on an AI model to perform.
TRUMP WANTS TO “MAKE AMERICA FIRST IN AI” 🇺🇸
We’re not here for the politics, just for the AI. 🤖
What’s up? Donald Trump’s allies are drafting an executive order aimed at bolstering military AI development and rolling back regulations on development. This reflects the “Maintaining American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence” order from Trump’s team in 2019.
Want the details? This order is being drafted by the America First Policy Institute, a nonprofit led by Trump’s former chief economic advisor, Larry Kudlow. The strategy includes launching a series of “Manhattan Projects” to develop advanced military technology and creating “industry led” agencies to evaluate AI models and secure systems from foreign adversaries. It also calls for the review of “unnecessary and burdensome regulations” which have been put in place by the Biden administration.
What’s the point? Trump’s team wants to go full fledge on AI development, releasing regulatory strongholds on developers inside and outside the government. This is seen through the order as well as through the edition of J.D. Vance as Trump’s running mate, who has openly pushed for open-source development and for the government to stay out of the way. This is quite a different approach to AI than that of the current Biden administration, which issued an executive AI order last year and has taken a slower, albeit more cautious approach.
“We will repeal Joe Biden’s dangerous Executive Order that hinders AI innovation and imposes radical leftwing ideas on the development of this technology. In its place, Republicans support AI development rooted in free speech and human flourishing.”
MISTRAL AND NVIDIA LAUNCH NEMO MODEL 🪸
This model is searching the coral reef for its dad. 🤓
What’s new? Mistral AI, in partnership with NVIDIA, has launched NeMo, a 12B model featuring a context window of up to 128,000 tokens.
What’s so great about NeMo? This model stands out for its exceptional reasoning, world knowledge, quantization awareness, and coding accuracy within its size category. NeMo is engineered for seamless integration with existing systems, notably replacing Mistral 7B models. To boost adoption and innovation, Mistral AI has released both pre-trained and instruction-tuned checkpoints on HuggingFace under the Apache 2.0 license.
“The model is designed for global, multilingual applications. It is trained on function calling, has a large context window, and is particularly strong in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Hindi … This is a new step toward bringing frontier AI models to everyone’s hands in all languages that form human culture.”
