MARVEL FACES HEAT FOR AI-GENERATED OPENING CREDITS 😡

It won’t be long before AI begins writing entire movies, but for now they are starting small … and people are not happy about it! 🙅‍♂️

What happened? Marvel’s new television series, Secret Invasion, debuted on Disney+ this week. The show faced backlash from fans for featuring AI-generated credits and artwork at the beginning of the show.

How were the credits created? Method Studios, a visual effects company, used AI to analyze the show and produce an appropriate opening sequence along with credits to the new series. Show director, Ali Selim, was pleased with the product and the easy-to-use technology, saying, “We would talk to them about ideas and themes and words, and then the computer would go off and do something. And then we could change it a little bit by using words, and it would change.”

Why are people mad? Most fans are expressing anger because they believe the AI-generated intro is unethical as it has the potential to take away human jobs and is in bad taste during the writer’s strike. Others think the art just simply misrepresents the rest of the show.

DROPBOX INTRODUCES NEW AI TOOLS 📥

Dropbox is making it even easier to access and manage your files by utilizing the power of AI. 🦾

What happened? Dropbox announced the implementation of new AI tools that are going to make document management even easier.

What are the new features? One of the new features will include a tool that extracts information from stored files and summarizes it for the user. This feature will also be able to answer prompt-based questions about the data. Additionally, a tool called "Dropbox Dash” will allow the user to search their cloud data as well.

What else is Dropbox doing? Dropbox announced a further commitment to AI innovations in the form of a $50 million fund to invest in AI startup ventures!

WIMBLEDON TO USE AI COMMENTARY 🎾

As if tennis commentary wasn’t boring enough, now we are going to get even more boring, AI commentary! 🤖

What’s going on? The All England Club is teaming up with IBM to offer AI-generated audio commentary and captions in its online highlights videos. This AI commentary feature will be available on the Wimbledon app and website throughout the tournament.

How will it work? Various types of data (including ball tracking data, player tracking data, and information about the shots made by players from different court areas) will be gathered from multiple sources across the tennis court using video recognition models. Subsequently, this data will be inputted into IBM's platform where it will undergo processing by the company's AI models. The processed data will then be will be inputted into IBM’s Watsonx AI platform, which has been trained in the “unique language of tennis.” This commentary will be utilized by a secondary text-to-speech AI model to swiftly convert it into near-real-time audio commentary. This feature will also include an AI analysis which will give insights and predictions on how favorable certain matchups are for a player or how probable they are to win their next match.

How will this impact the future? IBM envisions this innovation as a small start to eventually conducting live AI commentary across a variety of sports.
