AMAZON’S AI APPROACH TO HOLIDAY ADS 🎁

I ordered a deck of cards from Amazon, and two weeks later it hasn't arrived.
Customer service told me they're “dealing with it.” 🂥
What’s up? Amazon's CEO, Andy Jassy, has unveiled a game-changing holiday advertising strategy centered around the power of generative AI.
How are they doing this? Jassy recognizes the need for advertisers to make well-informed budget decisions, focusing on high-performing ads with significant volume. With over 160 million Prime subscribers, Amazon plans to leverage the data they've collected to revolutionize their advertising approach, tailoring ads more specifically to the intended audience both in design and presentation.
Will it work? Analysts predict that Amazon's holiday quarter advertising revenue will reach $14.2 billion, a notable increase from $11.56 billion in 2022. The use of AI-generated images has the potential to entice hesitant shoppers, making them more likely to complete their purchases.
U.S. GOVERNMENT’S FIRST-EVER AI EXECUTIVE ORDER 🇺🇸

The U.S. Government did something about AI … or did they? 🤫
What happened? President Joe Biden signed the first-ever AI executive order in the United States, and it is accompanied by a mixed reaction.
What does it say? The key components of the executive order are divided into eight sections, each aimed at ensuring the responsible development and application of AI technology. These components cover the following:
Safety and Security Standards: New standards are to be created, requiring AI companies to share safety test results with the government. Additionally, a cybersecurity program will identify flaws in critical software.
Consumer Privacy: Guidelines for evaluating privacy techniques used in AI will be established to protect individuals’ data.
Equity and Civil Rights: AI algorithms’ potential to perpetuate discrimination will be addressed by providing guidance to landlords, federal contractors, and the justice system.
Consumer Protection: A program will be created to evaluate potentially harmful AI-related healthcare practices, and resources for responsible AI use in education will be developed.
Supporting Workers: Research on the impact of AI on the labor market and support for affected workers will be explored.
Promoting Innovation: Grants for AI research in areas like climate change and modernizing criteria for skilled immigrant workers will be expanded.
International Collaboration: Collaboration with international partners to implement global AI standards will be prioritized.
Guidance for Federal Agencies: Guidance will be developed for federal agencies’ AI use and expedition in hiring skilled AI professionals.
What does this mean? This executive order is a step toward establishing concrete regulations for AI development and use. It also builds on voluntary commitments made by leading AI companies to ensure AI safety. However, some are viewing it as a written down version of what the government plans to do rather than an actual step forward.
G7’S NEW CODE OF CONDUCT 📝

Is a voluntary code of conduct a code of conduct at all? 🤔
What’s up? The Group of Seven (G7) industrial countries, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, and the United States, along with the European Union, unveiled a voluntary code of conduct aimed at addressing the risks and challenges posed by AI technology in business.
What does it say? The 11-point code encourages organizations working on advanced AI systems to take appropriate measures to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks throughout the AI development process. It also emphasizes the importance of addressing incidents and misuse of AI products after they are introduced to the market. To foster transparency, companies are urged to publish public reports outlining the capabilities, limitations, and potential uses and misuses of their AI systems, while also investing in robust security controls.
