IS META SPYING ON YOUR LIFE? 👁️
Q: Why did the spy lie in bed all day?
A: She was working undercover. 🛌
What happened? Meta has updated the privacy policy for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, forcing users to share more of their data.
What’s changed? Meta has implemented two major changes:
|
|
Why is this important? The motivation behind these changes is clear: Meta wants to continue providing its AI models with as much data as possible to train and improve their performance. This move shows how desperate AI companies like Meta are to collect data, even if it’s at the expense of user privacy.
APPLE AND ANTHROPIC TO BUILD CODING PLATFORM 👨💻
Q: How do robots eat pizza?
A: One byte at a time. 🍕
What happened? Apple is reportedly working with Anthropic to build an AI-powered coding platform, based on Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model.
Want the details? According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to integrate this generative AI tool into a revamped version of Xcode, its development environment for software engineers. The system, dubbed a “vibe-coding” platform, will help developers write, edit, and debug code more efficiently using natural language prompts. Initially, the tool is expected to be used internally, though Apple hasn’t ruled out a public release. If successful, this partnership could dramatically change how Apple developers build software—speeding up workflows and reducing repetitive tasks. This could allow Apple to deliver on some of the cool AI features they have promised to bring to their devices.
AI MAKES WIKIPEDIA MORE (UN)TRUSTWORTHY 🌐
I know how to make Wikipedia more reliable: Add AI! 😆
What happened? Wikipedia is rolling out generative AI tools to support its human editors.
How will this work? These tools won’t write Wikipedia articles but will help with background research, translating pages, and onboarding new contributors. For example, an editor working on an article might receive AI-generated summaries of reliable sources or suggestions for clarifying complex language. Importantly, all outputs would be reviewed and edited by humans. Specific details about the tools have not been disclosed, but they will likely be built on open-source or open-weight generative AI models and trained to operate within Wikipedia’s editorial standards.
Fry Guy’s unsalted opinion: At the end of the day, not many people trust Wikipedia or AI. Combining them will likely not make Wikipedia any more trustworthy, even if it unburdens contributors. In the end, AI Overviews and other summaries will probably take over what Wikipedia aims to do: give basic summaries of stuff that is sometimes accurate but should be taken “with a grain of salt.”
“Providing freely accessible knowledge to anyone on the planet is Wikipedia’s mission, one that has only grown in importance since the rise of generative AI. Its success is why Wikipedia is at the core of every AI training model. With this new AI strategy, we are making a promise and a commitment to the world we serve and the volunteers who have made—continue to make—Wikipedia the largest encyclopedia that humanity has ever known.”
