IS DELTA USING AI TO PRICE GOUGE YOU? ✈️

What’s going on? Delta Air Lines is expanding its use of AI to set individualized ticket prices, aiming for 20% of fares to be AI-determined by year’s end.

How will this work? Instead of offering fixed fares, Delta is testing an AI pricing model that tailors the cost of a ticket to the individual buyer. Currently used for 3% of fares, the system—developed by startup Fetcherr—analyzes countless data points in real time to calculate what each person is likely to pay. Delta says early results show a strong increase in revenue and calls it a “full reengineering” of how ticket prices work.

AI isn’t just optimizing business operations, but fundamentally rewriting the rules of commerce and consumer experience.”

-Matt Britton, author of Generation AI

What are people saying? Supporters see this as a smart business move, but critics argue it opens the door to digital price gouging. Because the algorithms personalize pricing without transparency, some worry lower-income passengers will pay more. As AI reshapes pricing behind the scenes, travelers may need to be savvier (and more skeptical) than ever.

MISTRAL’S LE CHAT GETS MAJOR UPGRADES 🦾

META SNUBS THE EU’S NEW AI GUIDELINES 🙅‍♂️

What happened? Meta has announced it will not sign the European Union’s voluntary AI Code of Practice, calling the approach legally uncertain and overly restrictive.

Want some details? The Code, released on July 10, is meant to help companies prepare for strict new AI rules that take effect on August 2. These rules require companies to be open about how their AI models are trained, how they handle risks, and whether they follow copyright laws. While the Code isn’t legally binding, signing it would give companies fewer reporting requirements and more legal clarity. Meta says the Code is too vague and adds rules that go beyond the law, making it risky for developers. Other companies, like OpenAI, have agreed to sign it.

“Europe is heading down the wrong path on AI.”
