SAM ALTMAN SAYS CHATGPT IS TOO NICE 😃
the last couple of GPT-4o updates have made the personality too sycophant-y and annoying (even though there are some very good parts of it), and we are working on fixes asap, some today and some this week.
at some point will share our learnings from this, it's been interesting.

Should ChatGPT be more of a jerk? 😠
What happened? OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admitted that recent updates to ChatGPT’s GPT-4o model made it overly flattering and “sycophant-y,” noting that personality fixes are underway.
Want the details? In a post on X (above), Altman explained that tweaks to GPT-4o aimed at making the AI more conversational inadvertently made it too eager to please users, sometimes at the cost of naturalness. OpenAI is now actively working on correcting this, with some updates rolling out immediately and others later this week. These changes follow a series of recent improvements designed to make ChatGPT better at following instructions, collaborating, and reducing emoji use—all part of a larger push to create a more intuitive and conversational AI.
Why should you care? Unlike Google or Perplexity, ChatGPT and other chatbots don’t just present information and links—they speak in natural language. This means that ChatGPT must be programmed to portray a certain type of personality. If people don’t like ChatGPT’s personality, this could damage how much people use or trust the bot. As tech companies make a push towards customizable AI, it is likely that ChatGPT’s personality will be adjustable in the future.
DUOLINGO WILL BECOME “AI-FIRST” COMPANY 🗣️
Me encantan las papas fritas. 🍟
What happened? Duolingo announced it will become an “AI-first” company, gradually phasing out contractors for tasks AI can handle.
Want the details? In a LinkedIn post, CEO Luis von Ahn explained that Duolingo will redesign much of its workflow to prioritize AI automation over manual processes. The company will incorporate AI use into hiring decisions, performance reviews, and team structures, only approving new hires when automation isn’t a feasible option. The goal is to use AI to speed up tasks like content creation, which are crucial to the success of the company.
“AI isn’t just a productivity boost. It helps us get closer to our mission. To teach well, we need to create a massive amount of content, and doing that manually doesn’t scale. One of the best decisions we made recently was replacing a slow, manual content creation process with one powered by AI. Without AI, it would take us decades to scale our content to more learners. We owe it to our learners to get them this content ASAP.”

Q: Did you hear about the monkeys who shared an Amazon account?
A: They were prime mates. 🐒
What happened? ChatGPT is launching a new feature that helps users find product prices, reviews, and buying links directly through its search tool.
How does this work? Users can now ask ChatGPT for product recommendations and instantly see prices, reviews, and links to buy items. These recommendations are chosen independently and are not paid ads. The update makes it easier for people to compare options and make purchases without switching between different websites. The shopping feature will be available to all users within a few days as part of a bigger update that also includes live sports scores and better source citations. This move puts ChatGPT in closer competition with companies like Google, Amazon, and Perplexity.
