What’s new? Amazon has released new state-of-the-art foundation models contained in what is called “Amazon Nova.” These models are designed to simplify life for shoppers, sellers, and enterprises.

What are the new models? The new Amazon Nova models available in Amazon Bedrock include:

• Amazon Nova Micro: a text-only model that delivers low latency responses at low cost.

• Amazon Nova Lite: a very low-cost multimodal model that is lightning fast for processing image, video, and text inputs.

• Amazon Nova Pro: a highly capable multimodal model with an excellent combination of accuracy, speed, and cost for a wide range of tasks.

• Amazon Nova Premier: the most capable of Amazon’s multimodal models for complex reasoning tasks and for use as an excellent teacher for distilling custom models (available in the Q1 2025 timeframe).

• Amazon Nova Canvas: a state-of-the-art image generation model.

• Amazon Nova Reel: a state-of-the-art video generation model.

What’s up? Spotify has introduced the 2024 Spotify Wrapped with personalized AI features.

What are the new features? This year, Spotify partnered with Google’s NotebookLM AI to create a personalized podcast summarizing users’ 2024 Wrapped. Hosted by two AI voices, this podcast highlights a user’s top songs, artists, and genres, delivering a unique, conversational take on one’s musical year. Another addition is “Your Music Evolution,” a feature tracking how one’s tastes changed throughout the year, complemented by a playlist tailored to one’s listening journey, powered by Spotify’s AI DJ. Social sharing options have expanded, too, with TikTok integration and a return of the “Top Listeners” badge, great for users who want to showcase their devotion to their favorite artists.

The company is also evaluating Amazon’s Trainium2 chip to pre-train its proprietary AI models, with early tests showing potential efficiency improvements of 50%. Most of this benefit is achieved through the personalized design of these chips, rather than one-size-fits-all hardware.
