PERPLEXITY LAUNCHES COMET BROWSER FOR FREE WORLDWIDE ☄️
What’s new? Perplexity has made its Comet browser available for free to users everywhere, while also introducing a new “background assistant” for certain paying subscribers.
How does it work? Comet is designed as more than a traditional browser. It comes with a built-in sidecar assistant that helps you while you surf the web. The assistant can summarize pages, answer questions about what you’re reading, and even manage or navigate content for you. Free users get access to this core tool along with features like Discover (personalized news), Spaces (project organization), Shopping, Travel, Finance, and Sports. Premium users get more advanced AI models, an email assistant, and now the background assistant, which can juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as booking flights, finding deals, or drafting emails, all while you focus on other work.
Why should you care? This move puts Perplexity in direct competition with both tech giants like Google Chrome and newer AI-driven browsers such as Dia. If Comet can deliver real productivity gains, it could convince people to switch from their current browsers—a difficult but potentially game-changing challenge.

What’s going on? OpenAI has released a public statement addressing Elon Musk’s recent lawsuits and comments against OpenAI, claiming he is trying to undermine the company for personal gain.
Want the drama? The post outlines Musk’s history with OpenAI, including his early involvement as a co-founder and his departure when the company chose not to merge with Tesla. OpenAI explains that Musk’s lawsuit—which accuses the organization of straying from its nonprofit mission—is misleading, pointing out that Musk himself supported the transition to a for-profit model. The statement also highlights internal communications showing Musk encouraged the company to raise billions and pursue ambitious research.

JEFF BEZOS SAYS AI IS IN A BUBBLE 🫧
What’s up? At Italian Tech Week, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said the current AI investment boom has all the signs of a bubble, but the technology itself has real potential.
“When people get very excited, as they are today, about artificial intelligence, for example ... every experiment gets funded, every company gets funded. The good ideas and the bad ideas. And investors have a hard time in the middle of this excitement, distinguishing between the good ideas and bad ideas. So that’s also probably happening today. But it doesn't mean that anything that is happening isn’t real.”
Why? Bezos noted that investor excitement makes it hard to tell good companies from bad ones, pointing to an example where a six-person startup with no product was valued at $20 billion. Still, he stressed that AI itself is real and will have a major impact, as shown by Amazon’s own investment in AI chips and data centers. Bezos’ core point is that short-term hype and long-term impact can coexist: the market bubble may soon burst, but the technology will remain.
