This link leads to one of the most interesting things I’ve seen in AI recently.
🛠️ NEW AI TOOLS 🛠️
What’s cookin’? Google is reorganizing its AI leadership as it pushes harder toward advanced AI and, eventually, AGI. This comes as Jeff Dean, Google’s chief scientist, announced his departure to launch a startup. Demis Hassabis, the co-founder of DeepMind, is now stepping away from day-to-day operations to become Chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet. That means his focus will shift toward long-term AGI strategy, science, and health work through Isomorphic Labs. Koray Kavukcuoglu will now lead Google DeepMind day to day, overseeing Gemini model development, frontier AI research, the Gemini app, and developer tools.
🤔 Hunter’s take: This isn’t just a corporate reshuffle. It shows Google thinks AI is entering a more serious phase. Hassabis moving “up” to focus on AGI strategy says the race is no longer just about better chatbots. It’s about who shapes the next computing era … and who controls AGI.
What’s cookin’? Reddit is rolling out a new AI-powered moderation system called Rules Hub to help subreddit moderators enforce community rules. Unlike Reddit’s older Automod tool, which mostly relies on exact keywords and pattern matching, Rules Hub uses large language models to judge whether a post or comment matches the intent of a rule. That means it can better understand context, nuance, and edge cases, while still letting human moderators choose which rules are enforced and what happens when someone breaks them. Reddit has tested the tool with moderators from more than 700 communities and is now expanding it to newly created communities before a wider launch later this year.
🤔 Hunter’s take: Reddit is basically moving moderation from “does this comment contain a banned word?” to “what is this person actually trying to say?” That could make communities cleaner and easier to manage, but it also puts more power in Reddit’s hands over how conversations are interpreted.
💬 PROMPT OF THE DAY:
Help me reconnect with someone I have not spoken to in a while. The person is [person], and we last connected around [context]. Write a message that feels natural, not transactional, and opens the door for renewed conversation.
