🛠️ NEW AI TOOLS 🛠️
What happened? Google DeepMind introduced Co-Scientist, a new AI research partner designed to help scientists come up with and improve hypotheses faster.
How does it work? Co-Scientist is built as a team of AI agents powered by Gemini. Instead of giving one quick answer, different agents take on different roles: some generate ideas, others critique them, compare them, rank them, and improve them over time. The system also checks ideas against scientific literature and specialized databases to keep them grounded in real evidence. DeepMind says this process is meant to mirror how scientists actually work, through cycles of proposing, debating, and refining ideas. It has already been tested on difficult problems in biology and medicine, including liver disease, ALS, infectious disease, and aging.
Why is this important? Scientific progress is often slowed by the huge amount of information researchers must sort through. A tool like this could help scientists spot promising ideas faster, reduce wasted time, and speed up discoveries that could eventually lead to new medicines and treatments.

What happened? President Trump signed an executive order asking AI companies to voluntarily give the federal government early access to some advanced AI models before they are publicly released.
How will this work? The order focuses on powerful AI systems that may have serious cybersecurity abilities. It asks the government to create a process for testing these models and deciding which ones count as top-tier or “frontier” systems. If a company chooses to take part, it could share a model with the government up to 30 days before launch so officials can study what it can do and identify possible risks. The order says this is not meant to create a required license or government approval process for releasing AI.
Why does this matter? AI is becoming powerful very quickly, and governments are worried about how these tools could be used in cyberattacks or national security threats. At the same time, tech companies do not want strict rules that slow innovation. This order reveals a difficult balance: the government trying to gain visibility into advanced AI without fully taking control of the industry.
