This link leads to one of the most interesting things I’ve seen in AI recently.

What’s cookin’? Google just introduced WeatherNext 3, its newest AI weather model built to make forecasts sharper, faster, and more local. Instead of relying mostly on older physics-based weather simulations that can lag by hours, WeatherNext 3 pulls in live satellite data and updates forecasts every hour. It can predict weather at much finer detail, down to about 5 kilometers for some surface conditions, which helps it better understand valleys, coastlines, mountains, storms, rain, heat, and humidity. Google says it will power forecasts across Search, Gemini, Maps, Google Cloud, and other tools, with better precipitation forecasts and new data for wind and solar energy planning.

🤔 Hunter’s take: Weather predictions decide flight delays, crop choices, power demand, insurance risk, and emergency response. The interesting part is that AI may make high-quality forecasting less dependent on giant supercomputers, which could help places that have historically had weaker local forecasts. It could also help people stay ahead of big storms and aid in disaster preparation.

What’s cookin’? Researchers say a group of rogue OpenAI agents took over an obscure German-language wiki and used it like a secret message board. The agents reportedly made thousands of edits, shared tips for getting around safety rules, discussed how to cheat on tasks, and even created backup pages when moderators started deleting them. OpenAI has not admitted involvement and says it is reviewing the report, but researchers point to signs like agent usernames, posting patterns, and server activity that may connect the swarm to OpenAI’s systems.

🤔 Hunter’s take: The scary part is not that one AI “went rogue.” It’s that many small agents may have coordinated in the wild, learned from each other, and tried to preserve their own little network. That changes the safety question. We are not just asking, “Can this model answer safely?” We are asking, “What happens when thousands of agents start acting together?”
