GOOGLE UNVEILS VLOGGER, BRINGING PHOTOS TO LIFE 😳

Q: What do you call a medical student who graduated online?

A: A Google DOC. 🩺

What’s new? Google researchers have unveiled VLOGGER, a groundbreaking AI system capable of producing lifelike videos featuring individuals speaking, gesturing, and moving—all from a single static image.

How does it work? VLOGGER works from a single picture of a person. From there, the system generates realistic body movements and facial expressions that align with the audio. The model also responds to vocal prompts and text instructions to control what the person in the video says and how they move. VLOGGER can also allow users to edit and alter existing videos.

What’s the significance? This breakthrough paves the way for applications spanning language dubbing, virtual reality, and AI assistants. However, the ability to create realistic videos from a single image raises ethical considerations regarding its potential misuse.

NVIDIA ANNOUNCES MOST POWERFUL AI CHIP EVER 💾

The world is hungry for chips, and Nvidia is baking them! 🍽️

What happened? Nvidia announced a new generation of AI chips, codenamed Blackwell, including the B200 Blackwell chip, the most powerful AI chip yet.

What’s the significance? Compared to the previous H100 chip, the B200 Blackwell is able to run AI tasks 30 times faster and can reduce both cost and energy consumption by 25 times. As companies like Microsoft and Meta invest billions in acquiring these chips, Nvidia’s move to offer more potent GPUs, such as the Blackwell series, is strategically timed. Through this announcement, Nvidia aims to fortify its position as the premier supplier for AI infrastructure. The Blackwell series is slated for release later this year.

“Generative AI is the defining technology of our time. Blackwell is the engine to power this new industrial revolution. Working with the most dynamic companies in the world, we will realize the promise of AI for every industry.”

CAN AI PREDICT A PERFECT MARCH MADNESS BRACKET? 🏀

Q: How do NCAA basketball players stay cool during a game?

A: They stand near the fans. 👏

What’s up? March Madness, the annual frenzy of college basketball excitement, often tempts fans with the dream of crafting the first-ever perfect bracket. In recent years, the buzz around AI has led some to believe that it might hold the key to unlocking this elusive feat. However, as enthusiasts delve into the complexities of bracketology, they’re discovering that AI alone isn’t the magic solution.

Can AI get a perfect bracket? Despite advancements in machine learning and data analytics, predicting March Madness outcomes remains a formidable challenge. The chance of predicting an entire bracket perfectly is 1 in 2 to the 67th power, or 1 in 147,573,952,589,676,412,928! Despite the odds being stacked against both humans and AI, there is more to predicting the winners of games than mere data analytics. While AI can calculate probabilities and analyze vast datasets, it struggles to account for intangible factors like team dynamics and player mindset. Not to mention, March Madness got its nickname for a reason: the underdog champions and the fall of the favorited teams is literally madness.

What’s the point? Despite advancements in AI’s data analytics, AI remains in the same boat as humans when it comes to March Madness predictions. And even if AI could improve the odds of predicting a perfect bracket, there is something distinctively fun about making the picks yourself, getting the game outcomes right, and bragging to your friends and family. As Bracketology expert Tim Chartier says, “The beauty of sports, and the beauty of life itself, is the randomness that we can’t predict.”
