GOOGLE’S AI SEARCH GOES ROGUE 🤯
AI is literally telling people to jump off bridges and eat rocks … 😬
What’s new? Google’s new AI Overviews feature has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, as users reported that the AI suggested jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge for depression, using glue on pizza, and recommended eating “at least one small rock per day.” And the list of these crazy answers continues to grow …
How did Google respond? A spokesperson from Google stated, “The examples we’ve seen are generally very uncommon queries, and aren’t representative of most people’s experiences. The vast majority of AI overviews provide high quality information, with links to dig deeper on the web. We conducted extensive testing before launching this new experience to ensure AI overviews meet our high bar for quality. Where there have been violations of our policies, we’ve taken action—and we’re also using these isolated examples as we continue to refine our systems overall.”
What’s the significance? The AI-generated summaries, created by Google's Gemini AI model, are meant to simplify searching. But despite extensive testing, these anomalies have raised concerns about AI-powered search. Many worry that the information is being pulled from sources based on ad revenue and that accurate information is not a priority. This reflects similar rogue instances from Google’s Gemini image creation model a few months ago, which led to it being taken down.
ZUCKERBERG ASSEMBLES AI ADVISORY COUNCIL 🤝
A boy walks up to Mark Zuckerberg and says, “My daddy said you were stealing our information.”
Mark Zuckerberg replies, “He isn’t your dad.” 👀
What’s up? Mark Zuckerberg has assembled an advisory council of tech leaders to guide Meta on AI and product development.
What is the group? The “Meta Advisory Group” includes Stripe CEO Patrick Collison, former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, and former Microsoft executive Charlie Songhurst. It is worth noting that unlike Meta’s board of directors, this advisory council is not elected by shareholders and does not have a legal duty to act in the best interests of the company’s shareholders. The group will meet periodically with Meta’s management team to discuss technological advancements and strategic growth opportunities.
“I’ve come to deeply respect this group of people and their achievements in their respective areas, and I’m grateful that they’re willing to share their perspectives with Meta at such an important time as we take on new opportunities with AI and the metaverse.”
ELON MUSK SAYS AI WILL TAKE ALL OUR JOBS 😳
"My biggest hope is Mars. My biggest fear is AI."
The final words of @elonmusk at #VivaTech
— Viva Technology (@VivaTech)
4:50 PM • May 23, 2024
Q: What did Mars say to Saturn on the phone?
A: Nothing, because Saturn never gave Mars a ring. 📞
What happened? While speaking remotely via webcam at VivaTech 2024 in Paris, Musk described a future where jobs would be “optional.”
“Probably none of us will have a job. If you want to do a job that’s kinda like a hobby, you can do a job. But otherwise, AI and the robots will provide any goods and services that you want.”
What else did he say? Musk shared that one of his major concerns for the future revolves around meaning, as he questioned whether humans can be fulfilled in a life without jobs and careers. He also issued a warning to parents about allowing their children to use AI, especially on social media. He stated, “[These platforms] are being programmed by a dopamine-maximizing AI.”
Why is this significant? Elon Musk is one of the most bullish people in the world when it comes to AI and the capabilities of cutting-edge technology, so these predictions should come as no surprise. Although his prediction should be taken seriously, it is worth noting that many experts do not believe that AI will ever possess the abilities to take over certain jobs that require high levels of emotional intelligence, such as health professionals and teachers. But in the end, only time will tell.
