GEMINI IMAGE CREATION GOES ROGUE 😳

Gemini is getting put in timeout … 😞

What happened? Google has temporarily halted Gemini’s image generation feature, acknowledging “inaccuracies” in historical depictions.

What’s the context? Social media users raised concerns as the Gemini image creation feature portrayed historical figures, including U.S. Founding Fathers, as people of color, deeming it inaccurate. In response, Google acknowledged the software’s deficiency, stating it “missed the mark” and committed to swiftly improving the depictions. Google plans to re-release an “improved” version shortly. Jack Krawczyk, a senior director of product for Gemini at Google, said the image generation capabilities of Gemini reflect their “global user base,” and that it takes “representation and bias seriously.” However, he acknowledged, “Historical contexts have more nuance to them and we will further tune to accommodate that.”

What’s the significance? This incident reflects the need for parameters surrounding historical and factual data surrounding image generation and also underscores the need to fact-check AI models, whether it be in text or imagery.

NVIDIA CONTINUES TO BREAK THE MARKET 📈

Q: Why did the investor open a bakery?

A: Because he wanted to make some dough! 🍩

What’s going on? Nvidia, at the forefront of AI chip development, nearing a $2 trillion market value, surpassing even the optimistic predictions of Wall Street. This achievement solidifies Nvidia as the third most valuable company in the U.S., with its shares soaring to a record high of over $780.

How did this happen? Nvidia’s remarkable journey to a $2 trillion market cap is unprecedented, accomplishing a remarkable feat by adding $1 trillion in just nine months. Nvidia controls about 80% of the AI chip market, and the surging demand for these chips has been driven by companies looking to leverage AI’s capabilities across a wide range of domains. Nvidia stock has been so dominant that it has accounted for more than a quarter of the S&P 500’s gains so far this year. Their massive success has also had a ripple effect, lifting the value of other players in the chip sector, such as Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Super Micro Computer, and Arm Holdings. The Philadelphia chip index has also experienced notable gains as a result, reinforcing the broader impact of Nvidia’s performance.

“The people who made the most money in the gold rush of the mid-1800s were the ones providing the tools to get the job done, not those hunting for the precious metal … Nvidia is effectively playing the same role today in this tech revolution.”

-Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell

AI PREDICTS ALZHEIMER’S 7 YEARS BEFORE SYMPTOMS 🙏

The research industry continues to boom in the wake of AI, offering us hope for the future. 🙌

What happened? UC San Francisco researchers have published a groundbreaking AI method that predicts Alzheimer’s Disease up to seven years before symptoms manifest, offering a crucial window for early intervention.

How did this work? By employing machine learning to patient records integrated with genetic databases through tools like UCSF’s SPOKE, the AI model achieved a 72% accuracy in predicting Alzheimer’s onset, demonstrating its efficacy in analyzing clinical data patterns and genetic tracing. The model found that high cholesterol emerges as a common predictor of Alzheimer’s, and osteoporosis stood out particularly for women. Going forward, these researchers envision expanding this approach to enhance precision medicine for challenging diseases beyond Alzheimer’s, such as lupus and endometriosis.
