GATES FOUNDATION INVESTS $44 MILLION IN AI ULTRASOUNDS 🤰

Did you know that babies cry in the womb? Yes, it’s true! 👶

What’s new? GE Healthcare Technologies Inc. has been awarded a generous grant of over $44 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This investment will be used to advance the development of AI-assisted ultrasound technology, marking a significant stride towards improving global healthcare.

What is the point? The primary focus of this grant is the creation of AI-powered ultrasound imaging auto-assessment applications and tools, with a specific emphasis on addressing critical issues related to maternal and fetal health, as well as respiratory diseases. GE Healthcare's commitment to global healthcare equity is also reflected in this initiative. This grant is meant to broaden access to high-quality healthcare, particularly in low and middle income countries.

How will it work? By collaborating with Caption Health, a recent addition to the GE Healthcare family, the technology will be designed to work seamlessly across various ultrasound devices, including more affordable handheld units. This approach holds the promise of making advanced healthcare accessible to even more people worldwide, ultimately saving lives and improving health outcomes.

ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER MEETS WITH ELON MUSK 🤝

Elon Musk continues to be a busy man, giving world leaders his input on AI. 🦾

What’s up? Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has embarked on a U.S. trip that commenced in California, where he discussed technology and AI with entrepreneur and billionaire businessman Elon Musk.

What is this all about? The Israeli leader posted the one-on-one conversation on Twitter (X), Musk’s social media platform (above), where they discussed “how we can harness the opportunities and mitigate the risks of AI for the good of civilization.” This high-profile visit to California coincides with controversies on both sides. This coming together displayed a unified approach to AI dialogue among world and industry leaders.

INDIA’S AI CAMERAS TO HELP TIGER-HUMAN INTERACTIONS 🐯

Q: Why did the tiger lose at poker?

A: Because he was playing with a cheetah. 🐆

What’s new? India, home to almost 75% of the world's tiger population, has unveiled an AI-based camera alert system designed to foster harmony between tigers and humans.

How does it work? Developed by TrailGuard AI in collaboration with the Global Tiger Forum (GTF), National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Clemson University, and the NGO RESOLVE, this remarkable system has the ability to swiftly detect tigers in buffer areas near human settlements and transmit images directly to mobile phones within 30 seconds. By providing real-time monitoring and protection, it addresses the critical issue of human-wildlife conflicts that often lead to retaliatory actions against magnificent creatures, such as tigers. Since its implementation in May of 2022, the system has been deployed in five tiger reserves in KanhaPench and the Terai-Arc of North India, showcasing its effectiveness in mitigating conflicts between humans and wildlife. It can transmit over 2,500 images on a single battery charge, making it a reliable and sustainable solution for protecting tigers and other conflict-prone species.

What does this mean for the future? What sets this AI-based camera system apart is its advanced algorithms that can identify various species, from tigers to elephants, providing 24/7 coverage and real-time alerts in interface areas. This innovation represents not only a triumph for Indian conservation but also holds the promise of being adopted by other tiger range states worldwide.
