AI IS HELPING PEOPLE HAVE BABIES 👶

A friend asked me if she should have a baby after 40. I said no, 40 babies are enough ... What do you think? 🙃

What’s new? In the ever-evolving field of reproductive medicine, advancements in AI have brought forth a groundbreaking development: the ability to choose the best embryos during in vitro fertilization (IVF). This breakthrough technology is revolutionizing fertility treatments and offering hope to couples struggling to conceive.

How does this work? Traditionally, selecting viable embryos for implantation has relied on subjective assessments by embryologists. By analyzing vast amounts of data, AI algorithms can now assess the quality of embryos with remarkable precision and accuracy, leading to higher success rates in IVF. The AI-powered embryo selection process involves analyzing several factors, including embryo morphology, development dynamics, and genetic information. By leveraging this data, fertility doctors can make informed decisions on which embryos are most likely to result in successful pregnancies, increasing the chances of a healthy baby being born. It is important to note that AI is not intended to replace the expertise of fertility doctors. Rather, it acts as a valuable tool to support their decision-making process, enhancing their capabilities and improving overall outcomes for patients. 🙏

What are the benefits beyond accuracy? The advantages of AI in embryo selection extend beyond its objectivity and accuracy. For example, this implementation of AI significantly reduces the time required for manual evaluations, allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care. Moreover, this technology has the potential to lower the financial burden of IVF by increasing the efficiency of the procedure.

ELON MUSK TO LAUNCH NEW AI COMPANY 🦾

🚨 Breaking news alert: Elon Musk is back in the headlines, and this time he’s launching something big!

What’s happening? Elon Musk announced his intent to launch a new AI company, xAI, with the goal to “understand the true nature of the universe.” According to Greg Yang, co-founder of xAI, the startup will delve into the “mathematics of deep learning … [and] develop the ‘theory of everything’ for large neural networks” to take AI “to the next level.”

Who is behind the company? Musk has gathered a team of former employees from DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Twitter, and Tesla. xAI is poised to compete with companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic for a lead in the AI space.

Where did this company come from? Rumors have spread of this announcement for the past few months, as Musk reportedly secured thousands of GPU processors from Nvidia in April in order to power a potential LLM. He also changed the name of Twitter to “X Corp” in some financial filings back in March, but on xAI’s website, the company notes its separation from X Corp, adding that it will “work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to make progress towards our mission.”

How can you get more information? Musk and his team will share more information in a live Twitter Spaces chat on Friday.

IBM TO MAKE ITS OWN AI CHIPS 💾

AI *chips* are a hot commodity these days … but what about AI french fries? 🍟

What’s new? IBM is considering the use of its own AI chip for a new cloud service.

Why? The potential benefits of utilizing an in-house AI chip are significant. It could lead to improved performance, lower latency, and reduced power consumption, thereby offering customers a faster and more cost-effective cloud computing experience. Additionally, having its own AI chip would give IBM a competitive edge, as it would be able to tailor its cloud services to meet the specific needs of various industries and applications.

What does this mean for the future? Major tech companies have largely relied on companies like Nvidia and AMD for their AI chips. However, IBM could be threatening this monopoly by creating their own, customized chips, setting the example for other companies to follow. If this is becomes prevalent, Nvidia and AMD will have to explore new avenues.
