RECAP YOUR YEAR WITH CHATGPT 💬

What’s up? OpenAI is rolling out “Your Year with ChatGPT,” giving eligible users a personalized annual recap of how they used ChatGPT throughout the year.

How does it work? Users on Free, Plus, or Pro plans can access this summary if they have chat history and saved memories enabled and meet a minimum activity threshold. The recap uses visuals, lighthearted “awards,” and summaries to highlight how you interacted with ChatGPT, such as whether you used it more for creative brainstorming, problem-solving, or learning. It can also generate a custom poem and image reflecting your interests. If your app is updated and you have not disabled memory, the icon should appear on your ChatGPT home screen. If it does not appear, you can try accessing the feature by tapping the + sign and prompting, “Show me my year with ChatGPT.”

INSTACART SHUTS DOWN AI-DRIVEN PRICING 🚫

What happened? Instacart said it will stop letting retailers use AI tools to test different prices on its app after reports showed shoppers were sometimes charged different amounts for the same grocery items.

Want the details? Instacart had been offering retailers a tool that used AI to run pricing experiments. Retailers could slightly raise or lower prices on certain items to see how shoppers reacted. A recent study found that this led to customers paying different prices for identical items from the same store, even when shopping at the same time. In some cases, the total cost of a grocery order differed by about 7%, which could add up to more than $1,000 a year. Instacart said the tests did not use personal data, but admitted the results confused customers.

Why does this matter? People rely on grocery apps to save time and money, not to guess whether prices are fair. By ending these AI pricing tests, Instacart is acknowledging the need for clearer, more transparent pricing—especially as AI becomes more common in everyday shopping.

MOZILLA IS CREATING AN “AI KILL SWITCH” 👀

What happened? Mozilla has confirmed that while Firefox is becoming a “modern AI browser,” it will also include a built-in AI kill switch that lets users completely turn off all AI features.

Want more details? Earlier this week, Mozilla appointed Anthony Enzor-DeMeo as its new CEO, outlining a vision where Firefox expands into a broader ecosystem of trusted software with AI capabilities. After backlash and confusion, Mozilla clarified that all AI features in Firefox will be opt-in and removable. A dedicated “AI kill switch” will allow users to disable every AI feature at once, ensuring they never appear again. Firefox developer Jake Archibald emphasized that this switch is meant to be absolute, removing AI elements entirely rather than just hiding them. Mozilla plans to implement the kill switch in Q1 2026, alongside future Firefox releases.

Why does this matter? Many users value Firefox precisely because it prioritizes privacy, simplicity, and control. By offering a true AI off switch, Mozilla signals that it wants innovation without forcing change on reluctant users. This approach could help Firefox stand out in a crowded browser market increasingly dominated by mandatory AI features. For those reluctant to involve AI in their search, Firefox may gain traction.
