The Future of Shopping? AI + Actual Humans.

AI has changed how consumers shop by speeding up research. But one thing hasn’t changed: shoppers still trust people more than AI.

Levanta’s new Affiliate 3.0 Consumer Report reveals a major shift in how shoppers blend AI tools with human influence. Consumers use AI to explore options, but when it comes time to buy, they still turn to creators, communities, and real experiences to validate their decisions.

The data shows:

  • Only 10% of shoppers buy through AI-recommended links

  • 87% discover products through creators, blogs, or communities they trust

  • Human sources like reviews and creators rank higher in trust than AI recommendations

The most effective brands are combining AI discovery with authentic human influence to drive measurable conversions.

Affiliate marketing isn’t being replaced by AI, it’s being amplified by it.

“AI CAN’T NHL” 🏒

What’s up? The National Hockey League (NHL) has launched a new marketing campaign called AI Can’t NHL,” spotlighting the league’s stars and making the case that AI can’t replace what makes hockey special.

Want the details? The ad imagines a world where AI is said to be transforming every profession, then cuts to four top NHL players—Charlie McAvoy, Cale Makar, Jake Oettinger, and Quinn Hughes—who push back on that idea. Set after a presentation about AI’s growing influence, the players raise thoughtful questions that reveal the limits of technology when it comes to hockey. Their comments highlight instincts, split-second decisions, creativity, and emotional awareness—qualities that define elite play but can’t be programmed.

Why is this significant? The campaign taps into widespread curiosity and concern about AI, using it to remind fans why live sports still feel deeply human. By emphasizing authenticity and skill, the NHL positions its players—and the game itself—as something technology can enhance, but never replace.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MISHANDLES DEEPFAKE DEBACLE 😔

What’s up? A 13-year-old girl at a Louisiana middle school was disciplined and temporarily expelled after confronting a classmate while AI-generated explicit images of her and other girls were being shared among students.

Want the story? The images were created using widely available AI tools that can take an ordinary photo from social media and digitally generate a realistic explicit images, often called “deepfakes.” These pictures spread quickly on apps like Snapchat, where messages disappear after viewing, making them hard for adults to find or verify. In this case, school officials initially doubted the images existed. While the harassment continued, the girl eventually lashed out physically at a classmate she believed was involved and was initially expelled for it. Later investigations confirmed multiple AI-generated explicit images, and law enforcement charged two boys under a new Louisiana law targeting AI-created explicit images of minors. As a result, the girl would face no charges because of what the sheriff’s office described as the “totality of the circumstances.”

Why does this matter? This case shows how fast AI can amplify cyberbullying and how unprepared schools often are to handle digital harm. When adults lag behind technology, victims may suffer twice—first online, then through punishment instead of protection.

AI HELPS FIND LOST CAT AFTER 103 DAYS 🐈

What happened? A Texas family was reunited with their missing cat after 103 days thanks to AI photo-matching technology.

Want the story? Pam’s indoor cat, Grayson, slipped outside and vanished. After endless searching, Pam uploaded Grayson’s photo to Petco Love Lost, a free platform that uses AI to compare images of lost and found pets. For months, the system quietly scanned new uploads. Eventually, a nearby resident named Missy found a thin stray cat, took a photo and uploaded it to the same system. The AI matched the two photos, alerted Missy and connected her with Pam, who lived just a mile away. AI tools like photo matching extend the search far beyond flyers and social posts, keeping hope alive long after a pet disappears.
