SORA TO BE PUBLICLY RELEASED “WITHIN A FEW MONTHS” 😁

Sora has already broken the internet … and it’s not even public yet. 😳

What’s up? OpenAI’s much-anticipated text-to-video generator, Sora, is set to debut to the public this year, and reports suggest it might soon include audio and editing.

Want more details? Initially showcased in February, Sora impressed the public with its ability to craft hyperrealistic scenes from textual prompts, captivating audiences despite its limited availability to visual artists and filmmakers. OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, has revealed plans to release Sora to the public “this year,” noting it could be “within a few months.” Murati also said OpenAI plans to expand Sora's capabilities, aiming to integrate audio and allow user editing to enhance realism and accuracy. However, questions loom regarding the training data’s sources, with Murati remaining elusive on specifics but confirming partnerships with Shutterstock.

What’s new? Figure, in collaboration with OpenAI, has unveiled a groundbreaking milestone in robotics: the Figure 01 bot, which engages in real-time conversation, reasoning, and self-reflection.

Want the details? Figure’s ambitious venture is to pioneer commercially viable general-purpose humanoid robots. This project has been spearheaded by entrepreneur Brett Adcock, and is compiled of an elite team which has gathered talents from renowned tech giants like Boston Dynamics, Tesla, Google DeepMind, and Archer Aviation. The latest demo (above) displays the Figure 01 bot conversing with a human, identifying objects in its surroundings, and reasoning to take certain needed actions. Figure 01 also showed the ability to engage in self-reflection about how it performed on the given tasks.

What is the significance? The cognitive power displayed by Figure 01 in the latest demo is unlike any that has ever been displayed in robotics, emphasizing the power of AI to shape hardware solutions of all kinds.

GOOGLE’S LATEST AI MODEL CAN PLAY VIDEO GAMES 🎮

What’s new? Google DeepMind’s new AI model, SIMA, has shown an ability to partake in novel tasks within various video games, including Goat Simulator 3.

How does this work? SIMA, which stands for “Scalable Instructable Multiworld Agent” was built through a collaboration between Google DeepMind and several gaming studios. The model was trained on the keyboard and mouse data gathered from these gaming studios across ten different games. DeepMind then trained SIMA on what those clicks meant, within the context of that game. From here, SIMA showed the ability to carry out tasks in games from various prompts, such as: “Turn left” … “Go to the spaceship” … “Go through the gate” … “Chop down a tree.”
