HOLLYWOOD GOES ON STRIKE!🎥
Over 11,000 screenwriters who are unionized under the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike this weekend. The reason? AI could be taking their jobs.
AI, and in particular ChatGPT, has been proven to create substantial content by utilizing ideas stored in its expansive and ever-growing database. In fact, it monitors the keystrokes of writers daily to learn more about how to write creatively! Joe Russo, known for being the director of The Avengers, thinks this technology is progressing so quickly that fully AI-written movies could arrive in “2 years or less.” ✍️
Major industry players such as Disney and Netflix are refusing to rule out the idea that AI could replace many of their writers in the near future. As a result, the WGA is pushing for an agreement to regulate AI and protect jobs. The union is demanding that AI won’t be used to write or rewrite material covered by contracted workers and that screenwriters under WGA will not be used for the purposes of training AI. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have refused to address these concerns, and until the WGA gets some structure, it’s “pens down and fists up” for the writers.
WARREN BUFFETT COMPARES AI TO AN ATOMIC BOMB 💣
92-year-old investor Warren Buffett spoke at Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting over the weekend, and one major concern of his came to the forefront: artificial intelligence is advancing far too rapidly. 😳
Buffett is impressed by the technology’s vast capabilities and its ability to store data and formulate it in a variety of creative ways. However, this does not come without some underlying concerns. He said, “It can do all kinds of things. And when something can do all kinds of things, I get a little bit worried.”
Buffett compared the advancement of AI to that of the creation of the atomic bomb. He agreed that the invention of the atomic bomb was done for “a very, very good reason,” mentioning its usefulness in World War II, but followed it up by saying, “But is it good for the next 200 years of the world that the ability to [create the bomb] has been unleashed?" The answer for him? Of course not. Buffett thinks along the same lines when it comes to AI. His worry is that once we create it, it cannot be un-created. Thus, we need to be careful and conscious of what we are creating and for what purposes we are creating it.
THE RIZZ KING? 🤴
Do you have rizz? 😉 This dude at Stanford does! He developed what he calls, “rizzGPT.” This is a smart monocle with open-source Monocle AR hardware. It utilizes ChatGPT artificial intelligence conjoined with the “Whisper” speech recognition system from OpenAI. This gadget recognizes faces and tracks live conversations all while granting the user access to the features of ChatGPT’s expansive database.
This smart monocle can be used to provide the user with recommended answers to interview questions, prompt ideas for small talk on dates, or even give the user recommendations of the most attractive or healthiest dishes off a restaurant menu in seconds!
The inventor says the monocle has some area for improvement such as comfortability and response speed, but one thing is for sure: these specs are a major fashion statement! 👓
