What’s cookin’? Apple introduced two new Mac chips built for faster AI work: the M6 and M5 Ultra. The M6, coming to the Mac mini, is Apple’s first 2-nanometer chip, meaning it can pack more power into a smaller, more efficient design. It has a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, and two 16-core Neural Engines to speed up on-device AI tasks. The M5 Ultra, built for Mac Studio, is Apple’s most powerful chip yet, using a new quad-die design that lets four chip sections act like one giant processor. With up to 512GB of unified memory, it can run huge AI models locally instead of relying on cloud servers.

🤔 Hunter’s take: The interesting part here is not just “faster Macs.” It is Apple quietly turning the desktop into an AI workstation. If more powerful models can run locally, AI becomes more private, faster, and less dependent on Big Tech’s cloud — which can easily store (and share) your data.

What’s cookin’? Australia’s official music charts are banning songs that are mostly or entirely created by AI. Under the new rules, chart-eligible songs must be “substantially human made,” meaning people still need to write the song and perform the lead vocals and main instruments. Now, AI is not banned completely. Artists can still use it for things like mastering, drum machines, Auto-Tune, or other production help. But songs generated wholesale by AI tools will not be allowed to compete on the charts. Artists must also declare AI use when submitting music, and the Australian Recording Industry Association can later change chart positions or even ask for awards back if a song breaks the rules.

🤔 Hunter’s take: This is less about whether AI music is “real” music and more about who gets to capture the value of culture. Charts are not just popularity contests. They drive radio play, playlists, awards, bookings, and credibility. So if AI-generated tracks can climb those ladders using systems trained on human artists, the industry risks rewarding extraction over artistry. The smart line here is not “no AI.” It is: use AI as a tool, but do not let it replace the person the chart is supposed to celebrate.
