HOW AI WILL BE USED ON YOUR NEXT CRUISE 🛳️

Q: Why did the fish blush?

A: It saw the ocean’s bottom. 🌊

What’s new? Royal Caribbean is pioneering an initiative to combat food waste and enhance operational efficiency on its latest and largest vessel, the “Icon of the Seas.”

How does it work? By employing AI algorithms, Royal Caribbean aims to meticulously track and analyze food consumption patterns throughout the ship’s dining establishments. This proactive approach enhances inventory management, curbing overproduction and significantly reducing food waste. This move aligns with the cruise industry’s growing emphasis on sustainability amidst global climate change objectives. This aligns with Royal Caribbean’s goal to cut their food waste in half by 2025.

“We will be able to tell our crew members and our chefs onboard the ship exactly how much of a [given food] we need, what recipes to use them for, what venues to use them in … just based on information like where the ship is going, the historical data as it relates to our guests, and the demographics of the guests staying on that specific ship.”

-Corporate leader at Royal Caribbean

What else? Beyond environmental benefits, Royal Caribbean’s investment in AI technology seeks to elevate visitor experiences through personalized services. By utilizing data analytics to predict passenger preferences, the cruise line can tailor dining and even entertainment offers to individual needs and desires, providing a more enjoyable guest experience.

MICROSOFT MAKES ANOTHER HUGE INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT 🌐

Microsoft is throwing money all over the world! 💸

What’s going on? Microsoft, the most valuable company in the world, is set to strengthen its presence in Spain with a significant investment of $2.1 billion over the next two years.

Why is this significant? This strategic move follows closely on the heels of Microsoft’s announcement of a substantial $3.45 billion investment in AI-focused initiatives in Germany over this same two-year period. These back-to-back investments overseas reveals Microsoft’s global approach to AI. These international investments also provide the company with more security amidst rapidly advancing regulatory frameworks in different countries as well as aligns with their vision to make AI resources available around the globe.

U.S. HOUSE FORMS AI TASK FORCE 🇺🇸

Activate AI task force! 🚨

What’s up? In a bipartisan move, leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) and Hakeem Jeffries (D), announced the formation of a task force aimed at addressing concerns surrounding AI.

Why? Despite numerous high-level forums and legislative proposals over the past year, congressional efforts to pass AI-related legislation have stalled. The task force’s mission is to produce a comprehensive report that considers “guardrails” to protect the nation against current and emerging AI threats. The task force’s report, expected to include guiding principles and bipartisan policy proposals, will be crucial for navigating the challenges and ensuring creative AI innovation which benefits society and minimizes harm.

What’s the significance? The U.S. government, for better or for worse, has done little in terms of AI regulation. The formation of this task force might actually be a step in the right direction. For even if the federal government decides not to regulate AI, this decision can at least be a more informed one.
