AI GETS A TONGUE, ENABLING IT TO TASTE 👅
Every Friday, I go out to eat with my friends. I guess you could say they are my taste buds. 🤪
What’s up? Researchers at Penn State have developed an electronic tongue that enables AI to taste.
How does it work? This AI-powered electronic tongue analyzes sensory data to identify differences between similar liquids—such as milk—with varying water content, and can detect spoilage in fruit juices. The device can also distinguish between different sodas and coffee blends. For transparency, the system provides insights into how it makes these decisions.
Why is this important? Beyond just being super cool, this technology has potential applications in food safety, production, and even medical diagnostics.
STARTUP ENTERPRISE AI MODEL TOPS LEADERBOARD 🦾
Gotta love a good underdog story. 😎
What’s up? AI startup Writer has introduced its latest LLM, Palmyra X 004, which tops the charts for action capabilities and tool calling for enterprise AI.
What is tool calling? Tool calling is a feature in advanced AI models that allows the AI to use specific tools or programs to complete tasks. Instead of just providing information or answering questions, the AI can take action by “calling” or activating the right tool for the job. For example, if the AI is asked to schedule a meeting, it might use a calendar tool to set up the appointment automatically. Or, if it needs to get data from a company’s database, it will know which tool to use to access and retrieve that information. This ability makes the AI more useful for real-world tasks because it can do more than just provide answers to questions—it can take actions based on what it’s been asked to do.
What does Palmyra X 004 do? Palmyra X 004 is an advanced AI model designed to help businesses automate tasks that usually require multiple steps. Think of it like a super-smart assistant that can follow instructions, look up information, and handle different tasks all at once. For example, it can analyze data, send emails, and connect with other systems to get things done without needing a person to do each step manually. This makes it easier for companies to manage their work more efficiently by letting the AI handle complex processes quickly and accurately.
Why is this significant? Writer’s new model beats out OpenAI’s GPT-4, GPT-4o, and Claude at these enterprise-focused tasks. This represents a huge victory for “small AI” and sets a new standard for startups to live up to.
MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES NEW HEALTHCARE-FOCUSED AI TOOLS 👩⚕️
Q: Why did the balloon go to the doctor?
A: It was feeling light-headed. 🎈
What’s new? Microsoft announced a new suite of healthcare-focused AI and data tools aimed at improving efficiency in the industry.
What are the new tools?
AI-Powered Documentation Tool for Nurses: Automates clinical note-taking for nurses by transforming voice recordings into written documentation.
Health-Care Agent Service: Allows health organizations to create AI assistants to help with tasks like answering questions, identifying clinical trials, and providing clinical guidelines.
Medical Imaging AI Models: Open-source multimodal AI models that can analyze various data types, including medical images, to help health organizations build custom AI applications for tasks like cancer subtyping and mutation prediction.
DAX Copilot for Doctors: An automated documentation tool for doctors that records patient visits and converts them into clinical notes, already integrated with electronic health records systems like Epic.
Why is this significant? These tools are designed to help health organizations develop AI applications more easily and reduce the time clinicians spend on administrative tasks, which is a significant contributor to burnout.
