What’s cookin’? Pet technology company Dogness just announced a new AI-powered pet feeder built with Google Cloud and Google Gemini. The device not only feeds your pet automatically on a timer, but it also includes a camera that can watch your dog or cat throughout the day. Using Gemini, the feeder analyzes things like eating, movement, and resting behavior and can alert owners if it notices something unusual. That means instead of simply opening an app and watching a live camera feed, owners could be told when their pet’s behavior changes in a way that might be worth checking on.
🤔 Hunter’s take: This is cool, and it’s what happens when AI starts getting built into everyday devices that already collect useful information. A camera used to just show you your pet. Now, AI can interpret what it sees and potentially flag changes you would have missed. Going forward, I expect that we will see this same shift across a lot of ordinary products.
What’s cookin’? A new Semperis report found that 84% of surveyed ransomware victims experienced attacks where criminals used AI, including to find security weaknesses, write malicious code, automate parts of an attack, and create more convincing scams. Even more concerning, 44% said attackers exploited their own company’s AI systems or agents.
🤔 Hunter’s take: The scary part isn’t that AI invented ransomware; it’s that it lowers the price and skill threshold needed to be good at it. Cybercrime used to require time, expertise, and specialized skills. AI compresses all three. This means people with far less expertise can now launch more sophisticated attacks, while experienced criminals can move faster and target more organizations at once.
