EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IS HERE 🤯

What’s new? Hume AI has unveiled the Empathic Voice Interface (EVI), the first conversational AI with emotional intelligence.

What can it do? EVI is able to assess the user’s tone of voice and respond accordingly. According to Hume AI, EVI has the following capabilities:

1. Responds with human-like tones of voice based on your expressions.

2. Reacts to your expressions with language that addresses your needs and maximizes satisfaction.

3. EVI knows when to speak, because it uses your tone of voice for state of the art end-of-turn detection.

4. Stops when interrupted, but can always pick up where it left off.

5. Learns to make you happy by applying your reactions to self-improve over time.

What does this mean? This is one of the biggest breakthroughs of the year so far for AI. A large part of human-like conversation is not only being able to engage in meaningful dialogue but also being able to assess emotions and voice inflections. The capacity for emotional intelligence will make LLMs more human-like and change the game for a plethora of applications. Now available as a demo, EVI will be publicly available sometime in April.

APPLE IOS 18 TO BE THE BIGGEST IOS UPDATE EVER 🍎

Apple, after a slow start, is now making huge moves in the AI space. I guess it would be appropriate to say, “How ‘bout them apples!” 🍏

What’s up? The upcoming iOS 18 update (to come in the late summer/fall of this year) is rumored to be one of the “biggest iOS updates” ever, and that is in large part due to AI.

What’s coming? With many of the upcoming features to be powered by Google’s Gemini, the update is rumored to include the following:

• An updated version of Siri which includes AI capabilities.

• AI driven Xcode for developers and programmers.

• AI powered summarization features for Mail and Notes.

• AI generated playlists in Apple Music.

• AI assisted iMessaging

WHITE HOUSE UNVEILS NEW AI POLICIES FOR FEDERAL GOV. 🇺🇸

U.S. Government: “Maybe if we talk about safe AI development enough, people will think we actually have a plan!” 😃

What’s new? The Biden administration unveiled three new policies aimed at regulating the federal government's use of AI and setting a global standard for AI governance.

What are the new policies? Firstly, the White House’s Office of Management and Budget will now mandate that federal agencies prioritize the protection of Americans’ rights and safety in their use of AI. Secondly, agencies will be required to enhance transparency by publicly disclosing the AI systems they employ, along with risk assessments and management strategies. Lastly, all federal agencies will be required to appoint a chief AI officer to oversee AI usage internally.

What does this mean? Overall, these policies means little to nothing. Just like most governmental action surrounding AI thus far, this seems to be another attempt by the U.S. Government to try to ensure the public they are doing something about AI, when in reality, these policies remain quite empty and impotent in the face of massively powerful and growing AI models.
