What happened? Wimbledon changed its Hawk-Eye line-calling system mid-tournament after a human error caused major confusion during a key match on Sunday.

Want the details? The system uses 12 high-speed cameras on each court to track the ball in real time and automatically call shots in or out—replacing all human line judges this year. Each court is overseen by an operator who monitors the system and communicates with a review official, who in turn stays in contact with the chair umpire. In Sunday’s match between Sonay Kartal and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, one operator accidentally turned off cameras on one side of the court with a single mouse click, and no alert notified the team. As a result, the system failed to call a crucial point, and the match was briefly paused. Wimbledon has now removed the ability to switch off cameras manually. This marks the first year Wimbledon has used AI-only line calls, eliminating human line judges after 147 years. This has sparked huge controversy, especially as other major tournaments like the U.S. and Australian Opens use video review systems merely as backups.

AMAZON HELPS SELLERS CREATE VIDEO ADS WITH EASE 🎥

What’s new? Amazon Ads has rolled out its enhanced Video Generator tool to all U.S. advertisers, allowing brands of all sizes to quickly create high-quality, AI-generated video ads.

How does this work? The updated tool uses advanced generative AI to turn product images or existing videos into dynamic, multi-scene ads with smooth motion, background music, and human or pet interaction. Advertisers can now choose from multiple ad versions, summarize longer videos into shorter campaign-ready formats, and even generate realistic action shots—like showing a watch on a wrist instead of on a table—with just a click.

Why is this important? Video ads are powerful but often expensive and time-consuming to produce. Amazon’s tool removes those barriers, helping smaller brands compete and enabling all advertisers to create more personalized, effective campaigns at scale. The result is smarter ads, better product discovery for shoppers, and a more creative, accessible ad ecosystem powered by AI.

GOOGLE FACES ANTITRUST COMPLAINT 😡

What’s going on? A group of independent publishers in the EU have filed an antitrust complaint against Google, claiming its AI-generated summaries are stealing traffic from news sites.

Want some background? The complaint argues that Google’s “AI Overviews”—the summaries generated by AI and placed at the top of search results—push users away from clicking on links to original news content. Since launching in May 2024, the feature has reportedly caused traffic drops for 37 of the top 50 news domains. Critics say publishers have no meaningful way to stop Google from using their content to train AI or generate summaries without risking disappearance from search results altogether.

Why does this matter? These practices could hurt the financial health of independent journalism by reducing site visits, ad revenue, and subscriptions. The case raises big questions about fairness, content ownership, and the role of Big Tech in shaping the future of news.
