WILL AN UPGRADED SIRI BE WORTH THE WAIT? 🗣️

What’s up? Apple’s upcoming Siri upgrade will connect with most iPhone apps, making many more functions controllable through voice.

How does this work? The upgrade will integrate with a wider range of apps through an improved “App Intents” framework. This system lets developers expose specific app functions—like searching photos, editing them, posting on social media, or sending messages—directly to Siri. The new Siri could, for example, find a picture, apply an edit, and share it in one command, or order a ride without opening Uber. Apple is already testing it with popular apps such as YouTube, WhatsApp, Amazon, and Facebook, with a broader rollout expected by spring 2026.

Why does this matter? If it works as promised, this Siri upgrade could turn voice commands into a true hands-free control center. That means faster multitasking, less screen time, and easier app navigation—especially useful when your hands are busy or your eyes are elsewhere.

PHOENIX POLICE WILL USE AI TO HANDLE NON-EMERGENCIES 🚔

What’s going on? Phoenix Police will begin using AI to handle non-emergency calls, aiming to cut long wait times and free up 911 operators for urgent cases.

How will this work? The city will deploy Versaterm’s CallTriage AI system, which starts by asking callers a series of questions to determine whether their situation requires an emergency operator. The program can converse in 36 languages and routes calls accordingly—whether that’s to an officer, a non-emergency service, or a human operator if the caller prefers. The move comes after Vice Mayor Ann O’Brien learned that 911 operators were also answering the non-emergency line, leading to waits of up to two hours. Portland, Oregon, already uses the same system to handle roughly 24,000 non-emergency calls a month.

Why is this significant? With more than 500,000 non-emergency calls each year, Phoenix hopes AI will ease dispatcher burnout, speed up reporting, and give residents a faster, more accessible way to address community concerns. However, if the AI system screws up, consequences could be massive.

META MAKES EFFORT TO FIX “WOKE” AI 👨‍💻

Image: The White House

What’s new? Meta has hired conservative activist Robby Starbuck to help fix political bias in its AI chatbot after settling a lawsuit with him. This comes after Trump’s executive order to make AI less “woke.”

Want the context? Starbuck sued Meta, claiming its AI falsely said he was linked to the January 6th Capitol incident and QAnon. Starbuck is known for campaigns pressuring companies to drop diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. As part of the settlement, he will now advise Meta on spotting and reducing political and ideological bias in its AI. Both sides say his input has already improved the chatbot’s accuracy.

Why does this matter? Biased AI can damage reputations and spread false information—especially in politics. Meta’s move shows how big tech companies are responding to pressure to make AI fairer and more accurate, while also facing criticism over who gets to decide what “bias” means.
