SALTY STORIES OF THE WEEK 🧂
Most companies are trying to use AI, but almost all of their projects fail to deliver real business results. According to a new MIT report, only 5% of AI efforts lead to revenue growth. The problem isn’t the AI—it’s how companies use it. Many rely on generic tools that don’t fit their workflows or try to build their own systems, which rarely work. The companies that succeed pick one clear problem, use expert tools, and let everyday managers lead the rollout. AI works best behind the scenes, automating routine tasks—not through flashy sales tools. (Read More)
Field AI, a robotics startup backed by Bill Gates, has raised $405 million in funding from major investors including Jeff Bezos’ family office, Nvidia, and Intel Capital—bringing its valuation to $2 billion just two years after launch. The company builds AI-powered robots designed for easy deployment across industries like construction, energy, and logistics, helping businesses boost efficiency and address labor shortages. With a team including veterans from NASA, Tesla, and DeepMind, Field AI is growing rapidly to meet surging demand in a booming robotics sector. (Read More)
Meta has paused hiring in its AI division just months after a major recruitment push that included massive compensation offers—some up to $100 million. The freeze, which also halts internal transfers, is part of broader restructuring and budgeting plans tied to its new “superintelligence” unit. (Read More)
THIS WEEK’S DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH 💎
This week’s diamond in the rough: ACM Research (ACMR)
How is ACMR using AI? ACM Research plays a behind-the-scenes yet vital role in AI development by providing equipment that helps manufacturers produce cleaner, higher-yield computer chips—an essential component for training advanced AI models. Although it's a U.S.-based company, ACMR primarily serves China, where demand for homegrown chips is surging. As Chinese companies push to replace foreign-made GPUs like Nvidia’s, ACMR stands to benefit by supporting the manufacturing of chips that will eventually power domestic AI systems.
Why is ACMR valuable? ACMR has seen massive financial growth as a result of the AI boom, with revenue jumping from $108 million in 2019 to $782 million in 2024, and net income rising more than fivefold. The company owns a majority stake in ACM Research Shanghai, which is valued far higher than ACMR’s own $1.6 billion market cap—suggesting it may be undervalued. Due to strong cash reserves, low debt, and a booming Chinese chip market, the stock is already up 60% this year.
