🛠️ NEW AI TOOLS 🛠️
What’s cookin’? Meta is shutting down Muse, a new AI image feature that let people create pictures using content from public Instagram accounts. The tool launched last week, but quickly drew criticism because it automatically allowed public posts to be referenced unless users opted out. In simple terms, if someone had a public Instagram profile, their photos could potentially help another user generate AI images inspired by that account. Meta said the goal was to offer a creative tool while giving people control, but the company admitted the feature “misses the mark” on privacy and is pulling it back.
🤔 Hunter’s take: This is another reminder that “public” does not always mean “free to use.” People understand that public posts can be seen, but they may not expect their face, style, or life to become raw material for someone else’s AI image. That gap is where trust breaks.
What’s cookin’? Apple is suing OpenAI in federal court, claiming the AI company stole trade secrets to help build its own consumer hardware. Apple says the alleged scheme involved former Apple employees, including OpenAI hardware chief Tang Tan, who Apple claims encouraged job candidates to bring confidential Apple parts and information into interviews. The lawsuit also says OpenAI coached departing Apple workers on how to avoid Apple’s security checks and used Apple’s private manufacturing techniques without permission. This is a major turn in the relationship between the two companies, which only recently partnered to bring ChatGPT into Apple’s iPhone software.
🤔 Hunter’s take: This matters because AI is moving from software into physical devices, and that makes talent, prototypes, and manufacturing secrets incredibly valuable. The big AI hardware race may not just be about who has the smartest model anymore. It may be about who controls the device people actually use every day. I think Apple feels their iPhone dominance may be threatened by a rumored OpenAI phone in the works.
