PERPLEXITY AND OPENAI TRANSFORM WEB BROWSING 👨💻
What’s up? Perplexity has launched a new, AI-powered web browser, and OpenAI is reportedly launching one of its own in the coming weeks.
OpenAI: OpenAI’s web browser will compete directly with Google Chrome and is expected to integrate ChatGPT and Operator, OpenAI’s web-browsing AI agent. Rather than simply linking users to external websites, the browser may handle more tasks directly within the ChatGPT interface—offering AI-generated answers and summaries without needing to leave the page. | Perplexity: Perplexity’s AI-powered web browser, Comet, is now available to premium subscribers and a small group of invitees. Comet puts Perplexity’s AI search engine front and center, offering instant, summarized answers instead of traditional search links. Its standout feature is Comet Assistant—an AI agent built directly into the browser. It can summarize emails and calendars, open and manage tabs, and even navigate web pages based on what you're looking at. You activate the assistant via a side panel that reads and responds to the page you're on, aiming to automate routine digital tasks. |

What’s new? Alibaba-backed startup Moonshot has released Kimi K2, a low-cost, open-source AI model focused on coding—and it’s already beating major U.S. competitors on some benchmarks.
Want the details? Kimi K2 is a generative AI model designed to write computer code, and it’s open source—meaning developers can access and use the technology freely, with minimal restrictions. According to Moonshot, K2 outperformed both Claude Opus 4 and OpenAI’s GPT-4.1 on several industry benchmarks, and it’s significantly cheaper to use. For example, K2 charges just $0.15 per million input tokens, while Claude charges $15. K2 is available for free via Moonshot’s app and browser interface, giving budget-conscious developers a powerful tool at a fraction of the cost.
Why does this matter? Kimi K2 challenges the dominance of U.S. AI leaders like OpenAI by offering competitive performance at dramatically lower prices. As OpenAI delays its own open-source plans, Moonshot’s move could reshape the global AI race—especially in the fast-growing market for AI-driven coding tools.
META IS BUILDING 5GW DATA CENTER ⚡️
What’s up? Meta has announced plans for Hyperion, a colossal new AI data center expected to deliver five gigawatts of computing power.
Want the details? The facility—larger than most of Manhattan—is under construction in Richland Parish, Louisiana, and will support Meta’s push to train advanced AI models. It follows Meta’s earlier hiring spree of AI leaders and will be joined by another massive data hub called Prometheus in Ohio, set to launch in 2026. Together, these centers aim to rival the capabilities of AI giants like OpenAI and Google. Meta’s total investment in these projects could surpass $10 billion.
