BET ON REAL-WORLD EVENTS USING AI 💰
Gambling is like eating pistachios. If you get a good pistachio, you want another good one. If you get a bad one, you want a good one even more. And that is gambling for you, in a nutshell. 🎰
What’s up? Polymarket, a leading real-world event prediction marketplace, is teaming up with AI-powered search engine Perplexity to enhance its user experience.
How will this work? Polymarket allows users to place bets on real-world events, such as how many times Donald Trump will post on X this week, whether Justin Bieber’s baby will be a boy or a girl, or which movie will be the highest grossing movie of 2024. Now, users clicking on events within Polymarket will see concise news summaries generated by Perplexity’s search results, along with the option to ask further questions via a search box. This partnership also introduces Perplexity’s Pages feature to Polymarket, allowing users to create and share pages from search results. These will be featured on Perplexity’s Discover page. Additionally, Perplexity will integrate data from Polymarket, such as election trends, to generate response visuals using another AI platform, Tako.
HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES LOOKS TO RIVAL NVIDIA WITH NEW CHIP 🇨🇳
We should power AI systems with French fries instead of chips. 🍟
What’s up? China’s Huawei Technologies is on the brink of launching a new AI chip, the Ascend 910C, which is poised to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the space.
Want the details? This move comes as Huawei faces U.S. sanctions that have restricted the sale of Nvidia’s advanced chips, like the H100, to Chinese companies. Despite these sanctions, Huawei’s new chip is reportedly comparable to Nvidia’s H100 and has already been tested by major Chinese internet and telecom firms, including ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile. With potential orders exceeding 70,000 chips, the total value is estimated at around $2 billion. Huawei is expected to start shipping the Ascend 910C as early as October.

What’s new? The AI-Enabled ICT Workforce Consortium has published its inaugural report, “The Transformational Opportunity of AI on ICT Jobs,” highlighting that 92% of IT roles will undergo significant changes due to AI advancements.
What did the report say? The report was developed with input from industry giants such as Google, Microsoft, IBM, and more, and examines the impact of AI on 47 ICT roles. The report notes that mid-level (40%) and entry-level (37%) technology positions will probably be the most affected as AI reshapes skill requirements. Critical areas such as AI ethics, responsible AI, rapid engineering, AI literacy, and LLM architecture are expected to gain prominence, while traditional skills like data management, basic programming, and content creation may decline in relevance.
What can be done? To address this shift, the consortium emphasizes the need for IT professionals to reskill and upskill, particularly in AI literacy, data analytics, and rapid engineering. According to CIO, members of the consortium have made the following training commitments:
Cisco: To train 25 million people in cybersecurity and digital skills by 2032.
IBM: To train 30 million people by 2030 in digital skills, including 2 million in AI by the end of 2026.
Intel: To train more than 30 million people with AI skills for current and future jobs by 2030.
Microsoft: To train and certify 10 million people in digital skills by 2025 (a goal it says it surpassed a year ahead of schedule).
SAP: To upskill 2 million people worldwide by 2025.
Google: To provide more than $130 million in funding to support AI training and skills for people in the US, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and APAC.
“AI represents an unprecedented opportunity for technology to benefit humanity in every way, and we need to be intentional about making sure people are not left behind.”
