WHITE HOUSE RELEASES “AI ACTION PLAN” 🇺🇸
What’s new? The White House has released “Winning the AI Race: America’s AI Action Plan,” outlining over 90 new policies to cement U.S. leadership in AI.
What are the new policies? The plan details actions across three pillars: accelerating innovation, building AI infrastructure, and leading in global AI diplomacy. Key initiatives include exporting full-stack U.S. AI systems to allies, fast-tracking the construction of data centers, loosening federal regulations that slow AI deployment, and ensuring government contracts favor AI models that protect free speech and avoid ideological bias.
Why should you care? This plan marks a significant step in positioning AI as central to America’s economic future and national security. With the technology set to reshape industries, jobs, and geopolitical power, these policies aim to ensure that American values and innovation lead the way—benefiting workers, boosting competitiveness, and guarding against authoritarian uses of AI.
AI SUMMARIES ARE KILLING WEBSITE VISITS 📉
What’s up? A new Pew Research report shows that Google’s AI-generated search summaries are making users less likely to click on traditional search links.
Want the details? Last year, Google rolled out “AI Overviews,” which generate short, AI-written answers at the top of many search results. According to data from 900 U.S. adults, 58% saw one of these summaries in March 2025—and when they did, they were about half as likely to click on a traditional link. Just 8% of visits with AI summaries led to a link click, compared to 15% on pages without them. Even links inside the summaries were clicked only 1% of the time.
Why does this matter? AI summaries are changing how people find and engage with online content. Publishers say it’s hurting their traffic, but users are benefiting from quicker searches. As AI reshapes the internet, tools like these could shift how we access information—and who gets credit for providing it.
OPENAI TO OPEN NEW OFFICE IN D.C. 🏛️
What’s going on? OpenAI will open its first Washington, D.C. office early next year to strengthen ties with U.S. lawmakers and regulators.
Want the details? The new office will serve as the company’s hub in the capital, housing around 30 employees and replacing the co-working space where they’ve been operating. It will include a lab called “The Workshop,” where policymakers, nonprofits, and educators can test OpenAI’s tools, preview upcoming technologies, and receive hands-on training. The office will be led by Chan Park and Joe Larson, with Chief Economist Ronnie Chatterji also working frequently on-site. This move follows OpenAI’s recent launch of its “OpenAI for Government” initiative and a potential $200 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense. By establishing a physical presence in D.C., the company aims to engage directly with decision-makers and ensure its technology remains at the forefront of American innovation.
SALTY SATURDAY 🧂
Who’s feeling salty in AI this week?
Elon Musk is salty this week after OpenAI announced plans to open its first Washington, D.C. office and deepen ties with the federal government—territory Musk once considered his own. As Sam Altman positions OpenAI as the go-to advisor for AI policy and national security, Musk’s influence in shaping the AI narrative has noticeably waned.
