APPLE WORKS ON AI WELLNESS COACH FOR IPHONE 🏋️‍♀️

My favorite machine at the gym? The vending machine. 🍫

What’s up? Apple is reportedly developing an AI-powered health assistant, part of a project called “Project Mulberry.” Reports say this feature could launch with iOS 19.4 as early as this spring or summer.

Want the details? This AI agent would live inside Apple’s Health app, analyzing data from your devices—like sleep, activity, and heart rate—to offer personalized advice on fitness, nutrition, and sleep. The company is training the AI using input from in-house doctors and plans to recruit outside experts to create informative videos within the platform for people with health conditions. A major new focus will be food tracking, marking Apple’s entry into territory dominated by apps like MyFitnessPal and Noom. This could potentially turn millions of iPhones into smart wellness coaches.

AI AIDS IN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF ❤️‍🩹

People talk about AI overtaking humanity, but could AI actually save lives? 😇

What happened? A Microsoft AI system was used to assess the damage and offer strategies for relief after a major hurricane in Asia.

How did this work? The morning after a massive 7.7 earthquake struck the area, a satellite took images of Mandalay, Myanmar. Microsoft’s AI For Good Lab had AI analyze these images to estimate how many buildings were damaged and where help was most urgently needed. In less time than humans ever could, the system identified over 2,000 damaged buildings, with more than 500 nearly destroyed.

Why should you care? This technology could help aid groups like the Red Cross respond faster and more effectively to disasters. Instead of guessing where to go or taking hours (or even days) to survey the damage, they can focus on the hardest-hit areas right away, saving time and lives.

META’S VP OF AI RESEARCH QUITS 🚫

I quit my job as a scuba diving instructor on the first day at work. Deep down, I realized it wasn’t for me. 🤿

What happened? Joelle Pineau, Meta’s vice president of AI research and head of its FAIR lab, has left the company.

Why? Since joining Meta in 2017, Pineau has led major initiatives, including the development of the open-source Llama AI models and the widely-used PyTorch platform. Exactly why she left the company is unclear. Pineau shared the news in a LinkedIn post, saying it’s time to “create space for others” as Meta enters a new phase in its AI efforts, but what this actually means is up for debate. Her exit comes just weeks before Meta’s LlamaCon event, where the company is expected to showcase its next-generation AI tools, so some speculate that this is her attempt to distance herself from new models. Regardless of the reason(s), this departure matters because Pineau has played a crucial role in shaping Meta’s AI strategy so far.

“As the world undergoes significant change, as the race for AI accelerates, and as Meta prepares for its next chapter, it is time to create space for others to pursue the work. I will be cheering from the sidelines, knowing that you have all the ingredients needed to build the best AI systems in the world, and to responsibly bring them into the lives of billions of people.”

-Joelle Pineau, Meta’s former VP of AI research
