OPENAI’S OVERHYPED SEARCHGPT RELEASE 🔎

Is this the end of Google? 😳

What’s new? OpenAI has “released” its much-anticipated entry into the search market with SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine that provides real-time access to information across the internet.

How does it work? Unlike traditional search engines, SearchGPT organizes and summarizes search results. For example, a query about music festivals not only lists events but also offers brief descriptions with links for further information. Similarly, a search on planting tomatoes yields a detailed breakdown of different varieties and planting tips. SearchGPT also allows for follow-up questions and features a sidebar for additional relevant links and sources for information. OpenAI stated, “Responses have clear, in-line, named attribution and links so users know where information is coming from and can quickly engage with even more results in a sidebar with source links.”

Why do people need to calm down? For now, SearchGPT is only available as a prototype. SearchGPT will be initially available to 10,000 test users, and there is no timetable for public availability. In this way, the release mirrors that of Sora, which has been “released” for months, but is still not publicly available.

VIDEO GAME PERFORMERS GO ON STRIKE 🎮

Video games don't cause violence ... Lag does! 😆

What’s up? Hollywood’s video game performers have announced a strike following failed negotiations with major game studios over AI protections.

Want some background? This strike, the second of its kind, comes after nearly two years of SAG-AFTRA discussions with gaming giants like Activision, Warner Bros., and Disney. Despite the studios offering limited AI protections, the union remains unsatisfied, leading to this decisive strike action. The previous video game contract, which expired in November 2022, lacked AI safeguards, prompting the current push for stronger protections. The union claims that without guardrails, game companies could train AI to replicate an actor’s voice or create a digital replica of their likeness without consent or compensation.

What’s the problem? A contentious point in this discussion is the definition of a “performer,” with SAG-AFTRA arguing that all contributors to game performances, including stunt workers and motion capture artists, should be protected as performers. The video game industry, generating over $100 billion annually, relies heavily on these performers. This strike represents more pushback on AI usage and implementation as it continues to reshape industries of all kinds.

“We strike as a matter of last resort. We have given this process absolutely as much time as we responsibly can. We have exhausted the other possibilities, and that is why we’re doing it now.”

-Ray Rodriguez, SAG-AFTRA Chief Contracts Officer

GOOGLE’S AI GETS SILVER MEDAL AT MATH OLYMPIAD 🧮

How did the Scarecrow win so many medals?

He was out standing in his field. 🌾

What’s up? AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2 earned a silver medal-equivalent score at this year’s International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

How did the systems perform? Google’s AlphaProof, trained as a fine-tuned Gemini model for complex math problems, solved 4/6 problems from the IMO, scoring 28/42 points. To put this in perspective, in the past 100 IMO problems, AI systems were only able to solve 1. Additionally, Google’s AlphaGeometry 2 was able to solve a complex geometry problem in only 19 seconds.

Why is this important? This performance marks a significant improvement for AI’s ability to perform mathematical, analytic tasks. This could have massive implications across various industries, including finance, engineering, and scientific research.
