GOOGLE GIVES STUDENTS GEMINI 2.5 PRO FOR FREE 👩‍🎓

Image: Google

What’s new? Google is giving college students in the U.S. and select countries free access to its most advanced AI tools for a year, along with $1 billion in funding to support AI education, training, and research.

How it works? Students 18 and older can sign up for the free 12-month Google AI Pro plan, which includes access to Gemini 2.5 Pro for homework help, research tools, coding assistance, video creation, and 2 TB of cloud storage. Additionally, a new “Guided Learning” mode in Gemini offers step-by-step explanations instead of just answers, helping students develop deeper understanding. The $1 billion investment will also fund AI literacy programs, research, and free Google Career Certificates, with over 100 U.S. universities already enrolled in the AI for Education Accelerator.

Why does this matter? This move follows the release of OpenAI’s “Study Mode” for students. Tech giants are clearly doing all they can to target a massive student market. And by making powerful AI tools and training widely available, these companies aim to prepare students for an AI-driven job market, foster innovation, and make advanced learning resources accessible to all.

U.S. GOV STRIKES UNUSUAL DEAL WITH NVIDIA AND AMD 💾

What happened? Nvidia and AMD have struck an unusual deal with the U.S. government, agreeing to give 15% of their Chinese AI chip sales revenue to secure export licenses.

Want the details? This arrangement comes after months of U.S. restrictions aimed at limiting China’s access to advanced AI hardware. Under the agreement, Nvidia will pay 15% of sales from its H20 AI accelerators to China, while AMD will do the same for its MI308 chips. By granting these licenses in return for revenue, the U.S. is effectively imposing a targeted “chip tax”—a move with little modern precedent. While this could generate significant income for Washington, it may also raise questions about the national security rationale behind export controls: can national security threats be bought at a price?

PUBLIC LIBRARY TEAMS UP WITH OPENAI TO EXPAND ARCHIVE 📚

What’s up? The Boston Public Library, one of the oldest and largest libraries, is teaming up with OpenAI and Harvard Law School to digitize thousands of historic U.S. government documents, making them searchable and accessible to the public online.

How does it work? The library holds a vast collection of government publications dating back to the early 1800s, including oral histories, congressional reports, and industry surveys. Until now, these fragile items could only be viewed in person. The project will scan each document, enhance metadata, and make the full text searchable from anywhere in the world. Harvard Law School’s Institutional Data Initiative is helping improve the searchability with AI tools, while OpenAI is covering scanning and project management costs. The digitized materials will remain public, with no exclusive corporate rights.

Learn from this investor’s $100m mistake

In 2010, a Grammy-winning artist passed on investing $200K in an emerging real estate disruptor. That stake could be worth $100+ million today.

One year later, another real estate disruptor, Zillow, went public. This time, everyday investors had regrets, missing pre-IPO gains.

Now, a new real estate innovator, Pacaso – founded by a former Zillow exec – is disrupting a $1.3T market. And unlike the others, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.

Pacaso’s co-ownership model has generated $1B+ in luxury home sales and service fees, earned $110M+ in gross profits to date, and received backing from the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
