STARBUCKS PUTS AI BEHIND THE COUNTER ☕️

What’s new? Starbucks is rolling out AI-powered automated counting technology across all its North American coffeehouses.

How does it work? The new system, developed with NomadGo, uses computer vision, 3D spatial intelligence, and augmented reality to track stock levels. With just a quick scan from a handheld tablet, store partners can instantly see what’s available, spot low-stock items, and soon even trigger automated restock orders. This eliminates manual tallies, speeds up inventory checks, and allows staff to spend more time serving customers instead of counting in the back room.

Why does this matter? For customers, this means fewer out-of-stock moments—whether it’s oat milk, caramel drizzle, or cold foam. For Starbucks, it means smarter supply chains, faster deliveries, and more efficient operations. By the end of September, the system will be live in every company-operated store across North America, making your next coffee run more seamless while keeping baristas focused on craft and connection.

OPENAI MAKES “PROJECTS” AVAILABLE TO FREE USERS 🦾

What’s new? OpenAI is making its Projects feature available to free ChatGPT users, a tool that was previously only for paying subscribers.

How does it work? Projects let you group your ChatGPT conversations by topic—like “Work,” “School,” or “Travel”—so everything stays organized in one place. Within a project, you can upload files for ChatGPT to reference, set custom instructions on how you want the AI to respond, and control what information it can or can’t use. Think of it as a dedicated workspace tailored to a specific goal or subject. Free users can attach up to five files, while Plus and Pro subscribers can upload 25 and 40, respectively. You can also customize your projects with colors and icons to make them easy to spot.

Why should you care? By bringing Projects to free users, OpenAI makes ChatGPT more practical for students, professionals, and hobbyists who want to keep their work organized. It’s also part of OpenAI’s strategy of giving away limited premium features to entice users toward paid plans.

GOOGLE LETS YOU “ANDROIDIFY” YOURSELF 👾

What’s new? Google has introduced Androidify, a new tool that lets users design their own Android mascot using AI.

How does it work? With Androidify, you can upload a selfie or type in a description, then customize your bot with outfits and accessories. Behind the scenes, Gemini 2.5 Flash captions your photo, Imagen generates the unique bot, and Veo 3 (Google’s video model) can animate it with different styles. On Fridays this September, select users can even turn their bots into short 8-second videos. The app is available on the web and through Google Play. Whether for fun, social sharing, or just experimenting with AI, Androidify highlights how technology is making creativity more accessible.
