SPORTS ILLUSTRATED IS UNDER FIRE FOR AI AUTHORSHIP 🔥

As a kid, the only thing better than Christmas morning was getting a copy of Sports Illustrated in the mail. 📰
What’s going on? Sports Illustrated is under scrutiny for allegedly publishing articles written by fake authors with AI-generated profile pictures and biographies.
Some background? The identified authors, "Drew Ortiz" and "Sora Tanaka," were revealed to have biographies and photos available on sites selling AI-generated headshots. The language in their articles exhibited the characteristic awkwardness of AI-generated content. The use of AI from Sports Illustrated is not the major concern here, but the covering up of AI authors seems to be a bit dishonest to their readers and others on the staff.
What now? Despite denying the use of AI, Sports Illustrated announced the removal of several articles and initiated an internal investigation. Arena Group, the owner of Sports Illustrated, attributed the articles to "licensed content" produced by an external company named AdVon Commerce in a defunct partnership.

What’s new? Amazon and Salesforce Inc. announced an expanded partnership that will make Salesforce applications available on Amazon Web Services (AWS) by early 2024.
Why? Salesforce, renowned for its cloud-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, provides cutting-edge generative AI tools that personalize content for marketing and customer service. On the other hand, AWS has Amazon Bedrock, a robust large language model. This enhanced partnership promises to elevate user experiences by facilitating the convergence of these powerful AI technologies into applications and workflows. The collaboration signals a significant leap forward in the integration of AI solutions, underlining the continued convergence of major tech players in the pursuit of enhanced customer-centric experiences.
NEW RESEARCH ON AI USAGE AND CONCERNS 🤓
According to a recent survey, 7 out of 10 people don't notice when a word in a sentence is replaced by a musical instrument. 🪗
What’s up? Research conducted by Ofcom focused on the usage and awareness of AI tools among 14,181 people aged 13 to 84. The study also delved into the concerns people have regarding the future impact of generative AI on society.
The findings?

40% of children (aged 7 to 12)
31% of adults (16+)
Among adults who had never used generative AI, 24% had no idea what the technology was.
What is the most popular tool?
Snapchat’s “My AI” is the most popular AI tool among children and teens, with 51% of 7 to 17-year-olds using it.
Among Snapchat’s “My AI” users, teenage girls are the most avid users, constituting 75%.
ChatGPT is the most widely used generative AI service among internet users aged 16+, with a usage rate of 23%.
Are people concerned about AI?
58% of people express concerns about the future impact of generative AI on society.
The age group most concerned about the societal implications of AI are aged 16 to 24 (67%).
