NEW DETAILS EMERGE ON OPENAI’S SECRET GADGET 👀

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s … 🤯

What happened? OpenAI and Jony Ive are secretly building a new kind of AI gadget, and findings from a lawsuit just revealed fresh details.

Want the details? For the past year, OpenAI has teamed up with Jony Ive, the famous designer behind Apple’s iPhone, to create new AI hardware. Court documents from a trademark lawsuit reveal they’ve been experimenting with many ideas: buying dozens of headphones, testing in-ear devices, and meeting with smaller companies for research. But despite rumors, the team now says their first product “is not an in-ear device, nor a wearable device,” as previously thought. Instead, it’s an entirely new type of AI tool that could sit on your desk or fit in your pocket—like a personal assistant that’s always aware of its surroundings.

Why should you care? This development signals that OpenAI isn’t just focused on software like ChatGPT. They want to create physical AI products that blend into daily life, possibly changing how we interact with technology entirely.

VERIZON INTRODUCES AI-POWERED CUSTOMER SERVICE 📞

Did you hear about the man who wanted to explore a new family phone plan? He was expanding his Verizons. 🌅

What’s new? Verizon is launching a revamped My Verizon app with a new AI-powered Verizon Assistant to handle customer service tasks.

How does it work? The new system uses chatbots and AI tools to help customers with upgrades, billing questions, adding lines, and finding savings—tasks that usually required human agents. Verizon says the AI Assistant can quickly complete many requests but will transfer customers to a live agent if needed. To reduce errors, Verizon worked closely with Google to build small, specialized language models focused on Verizon’s services, claiming over 90% accuracy. For more complicated issues, Verizon is introducing “Customer Champions,” human agents supported by Google’s AI tools, who will manage cases and provide updates through the app, text, or calls.

Fry Guy’s unsalted opinion: Nobody wants to talk to a robotic agent on the phone, especially about a complicated issue. However, nobody likes being put on hold for an hour while they wait for a human representative, either. Maybe combining AI with human support will set a new precedent for customer service across the industry.

SCAMMERS ARE USING AI TO STEAL FINANCIAL AID FROM STUDENTS 😒

There’s nothing funny about scams. 👎

What’s going on? People are using AI to enroll in online college courses, stealing financial aid from real students.

How does it work? Criminals are using AI—particularly chatbots—to create fake student identities, enroll in online classes, and collect financial aid meant for real students. These AI “ghost students” submit assignments, interact with professors, and stay enrolled just long enough for financial aid payments to be disbursed, often leaving victims with debt they never agreed to. Some colleges have reported hundreds of thousands of fraudulent applications, costing millions of dollars in lost aid and pushing real students out of full classes. The U.S. Education Department is trying to combat these scams by introducing a new rule requiring first-time federal student aid applicants to show a government-issued ID.

Why does it matter? With online learning growing, this kind of fraud threatens the stability of federal student aid programs and puts innocent people at financial risk. Stronger identity verification could help prevent identity theft and protect taxpayers’ money.
